Jaume Collet-Serra – Biography of Jaume Collet-Serra

The film director and producer Jaume Collet-Serra was born on March 23, 1974 in Sant Iscle de Vallalta, a small town in the province of Barcelona (Spain), and as a child he was passionate about cinema who, with an unusual and constant frequency, attended all the functions that could be seen in his city.

In his teens, on Saturday afternoons, he spent time in the movies watching American westerns and war movies centered on World War II, secretly cultivating the dream of becoming a film director.

At age 18 he left Spain and moved to Los Angeles, where, with limited resources, he was trying to learn the English language. He studied there for a time and kept a job at a publishing house, which allowed him to accumulate a little money. He attended Columbia University and began working as an editor.

Influenced by David Fincher, Spike Jonze and Mark Romanek, he decided to follow the path of film directing, initially filming commercials (Playstation, Mastercard, Pontiac, Renault) and music videos; simply signed as Jaume.
His debut on the big screen came with the horror film “House of Wax” (2005) with Paris Hilton, Chad Michael Murray and Jared Padalecki. It was a horror movie aimed at teenagers, made for the sole purpose of launching Paris Hilton into the movie world, and it turned out to be a mediocre failure.
Jaume He then switched to another subject with more adrenaline: the world of football, directing the sequel to “Gol!”, “Living the dream” (2007). He returned to the horror genre contacted by Leonardo DiCaprio as producer, to direct “The Orphan” (2009). For his next project he assembled a stellar cast: Liam Neeson, Diane Kruger and Bruno Ganz, among others, filming the psychological thriller “Without Identity” (2011).

After a brief stint on television, to direct two episodes of the series “The River“, Jaume returned to the cinema with another thriller, “Non-stop (Sin escalas)” (2014); also starring Liam Neeson.

Jaume and Neeson will work together again on the Spanish director’s next film, an action movie, which is scheduled for release in 2015 and will be titled “Run All Night.”
