James Valentine – Biography of James Valentine

James Burgon Valentine was born on October 5, 1978 in Lincoln, Nebraska, USA; he is one of five children born to Robert Young Valentine and Shauna Burgon Valentine, a former beauty queen.

His father, Robert, was a professor of Latin American literature at Brigham Young University and his mother, Shauna, was a school teacher and former beauty queen who had to quit her job to take care of her children. The Valentines were devout Mormons who attended The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The young man Valentine He was a very helpful child and it was during this period that he began to play the piano. He attended Lincoln Southeast High School and was an Eagle Scout. As a popular figure among students, he was also the president of the Student Council.

After finishing high school, he attended the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. He also attended Berklee College. Despite Valentine he played the bass as a child, he was more interested in drums. However, he devoted himself to playing the guitar and it was with the stringed instruments that he found fame. One of his first major concerts in high school was an invitation to play with the University of Nebraska Jazz Ensemble.

Valentine was seen often with some bands in Lincoln, some of them including Montag, Mondello, Kid Quarkstar, and Happy Dog. Happy Dog then transformed into The Square and it was with them that he moved to Southern California in 2000. In Los Angeles, to cover expenses, he organized private guitar lessons for music enthusiasts. The group Kara’s flowers was at that time in a period of change and Valentine he helped them as a guitar teacher. Later he was tempted to be the lead guitarist for the band. The Square had a period of tension and turmoil and Valentine left to join Kara’s Flowers, which was renamed Maroon 5 shortly after.

The band was integrated with Ryan Dusick, Adam Levine, Jesse Carmichael, Mickey Madden and James Valentine. Maroon 5 soon released their debut album, with songs inspired by Adam Levine’s recently failed relationship. The album was titled Songs about Jane.

John Mayer, one of the contacts of Valentine of his days at Berklee College of Music, he played a key role in exposing Maroon 5. Their fame began to grow when they achieved a first place spot on Mayer’s summer tour in 2003. From that point on, the presence of Maroon 5 has been constant on the world stage.

Aside from his commitments to Maroon 5, James Valentine he was also part of another band, JJAMZ. The band is comprised of James Valentine from Maroon 5, Jason Boesel from Rilo Kiley / Conor Oberst, Alex Greenwald from Phantom Planet, Michael Runion who is a soloist and Z Berg from The Like. The group name is an acronym formed from the first letters of each member’s name.

The group was formed as an escape from their respective bands. James had to leave the band later due to his commitments to Maroon 5, but that didn’t happen before they released their first album, Suicide Pact in 2012. When Valentine left the band, JJAMZ changed their name to Phases.

Throughout his career, James Valentine has managed to carve out a niche as one of the most successful and talented guitarists of his day. He has received numerous awards and the albums containing his vibrant chords are played around the world. Apart from playing the guitar, James he is also a talented percussionist.
