ByNitish Singh-May 9, 2018.399 Figure 1 Picture Courtesy of Netflix Netflix’s recommended list of TVs for the 2018 service includes just two TV manufacturers. For Sony the Android Tvs series W800F and Wf800 is included on the recommended list. Netflix recently released its list of recommended TVs to enjoy the service, and includes only two TV producers. The TVs on the list include all of Lg’s 2018 Uhd Tvs that come with WebOs 4.0 and Sony’s Android Tvs W800F and Wf800 series that came out earlier this year. Netflix may have announced that list a little too early in the year, with only a few TVs mentioned. Last year the streaming giant announced a much larger list which included high-end models from other manufacturers as well. A representative confirmed that, in the coming months, more TVs would be added to the list. Since 2015, the streaming giant has released such lists through rigorous testing to find out which tvs meet the criteria for the best viewing experience in content. Needless to say, televisions that make the cut are perfect for Netflix as well as other popular streaming services such as Amazon Prime Video Hulu YouTube Live and more. .400.400 ByNitish Singh-December 25, 2018.401 Figure 1 Image Courtesy of Hulu Hulu had one of its most successful years, with revenue growth of 71 per cent over 2017. The streaming service also drew more than 30 per cent of new mobile installations and over 100 million installations were crossed. Consumer spending on the app has also greatly increased with the business generating revenue of $12.7 million in November. In the first 11 months of this year alone, Hulu’s revenue figures were getting bigger and bigger with the company hitting more than 71 percent increase in revenue. According to estimates by Sensor Tower, the revenue currently stands at $132.6 million and installs for the January-November period for the first time by 30 per cent to 22.5 million. .402 Following the impressive growth of Hulu, however, its fiercest rival Netflix also grew rapidly. In the first eleven months of the year, Netflix’s mobile revenue increased by 88 per cent compared to the same period during 2017. The industry leader’s sales figure is about four times what Hulu reported at an incredible $489 million. This year, Netflix reported a 128 percent increase in downloads while Hulu’s growth in mobile users declined to just 26 percent growth, which is quite low compared to the 59 percent growth of Netflix. The mobile market for Hulu is currently valued at $12.7 million, an increase of 42 per cent. The streaming service is currently the world’s most-subscribed 10 th app. Hulu’s attempt to make a number of changes to its platform to stay competitive from announcing a number of new content launches to collaborations with brands like Venmopartnership with Funimation earlier this month was also a telling sign that the company is taking its competition very seriously. Microsoft Partners with NewsGuard To Keep Fake News Away from Edge Mobile

ByNitish Singh-January 23 2019.403 Microsoft is now warning users on its mobile browser Edge about fake news. The tech giant is providing the service a news publication ranking service through its alliance with NewsGuard. Microsoft has been aggressively pushing the relationship with NewsGuard on app updates for Windows. NewsGuard is an online service run by news industry veterans who aim to set a quality benchmark among the publications. It does not rely on fancy algorithms with artificial intelligence. Alternatively, NewsGuard-employed analysts manually test if websites follow predefined requirements. Last year, the NewsGuard browser extension was introduced for Windows users on Microsoft Edge and finally made it into the browser’s mobile version too. While Microsoft has not gained the same amount of viewers Firefox and Chrome has been able to make the feature revolutionary with most newspapers failing to take ownership in spreading fake news. For Daily Mail, one of the unexpected ratings seen by NewsGuard staff is. The publication was ranked as only one out of five. NewsGuard Ceo Steve Brill said they can blame us for this. And we are happy to be blamed for that. We’re willing to be responsible, unlike the networks. “NewsGuard works by selling the service to tech companies that want to fight misinformation campaigns. It remains to be seen whether companies like Google and Mozilla are working with the company or beginning to sell themselves a similar implementation. The new feature is available starting this week on both Android and iOs versions of Microsoft’s mobile browser, and is completely optional. Grip. Lauren Koszarek HackerOne: People’s Perception of Hackers Is Changing

ByGabriela Vatu-March 29, 2019.404 Starting back in 2012, HackerOne has become one of the best bug bounties in the world, distributing millions of rewards and keeping people safe everywhere thanks to the many bugs discovered by white hats. We wanted to know more about HackerOne about the ethical hackers who work the security world we all explore with the business and more so we had a talk with Lauren Koszarek HackerOne Communications Director. Koszarek has not only been leading the communications efforts of the organization for over four years now, but before joining HackerOne, she used to manage the communication of security response at BlackBerry for people. That said let’s go ahead and learn more about the business that is changing the way the world sees hackers in Lauren Koszarek’s interview with TechNadu.Lauren Koszarek: As a result of their hard work and dedication, we’re gradually seeing more of our hackers hit important milestones. Santiago Lopez was the first hacker on the HackerOne network to cross $1 M and just days later top hacker Mark Litchfield did the same, and other hackers are not far behind. There are enormous rewards for hackers with the ability and will, with over $19 M paying in bounties on HackerOne alone last year. Yet bug bounty schemes create opportunities for hackers all over the globe. Top earners in their home country can make up to 40x a software engineer’s median annual salary, respectively. From our annual surveys of our hacker community we continue to find that hacker training continues to take place outside the traditional classroom. In reality, 81 percent learned their craft through blogs and self-directed educational materials such as Hacker101 and reported publicly. Check out The 2019 Hacker Study for more details about the hacker community. TechNadu: Hackerone had reached deals even with the impressive Us DoD. Have they been contacting you, or the other way around, and you were the ones with the idea? Will you expect to experience a repeat? Lauren Koszarek: The U.S. Defense Department has long been a proponent of hacker-powered security programs and a member of the hacker community. The DoD first asked HackerOne to execute the first Hack The Pentagon initiative as a pilot in 2016. With 138 separate vulnerabilities found and hackers receiving more than $150000 for their efforts, the results greatly exceeded expectations. HackerOne also works internationally with other government agencies including Mindef and GovTech Singapore The European Commission The Department of the U.S. General Service and the National Cyber Security Centre, UK. TechNadu: Should its parents and teachers encourage young people to start hacking responsibly nowadays? What are some of the key things they can know to ensure they stay on the ethical track? Lauren Koszarek: I think that encouraging parents to hack their children is great-we can’t promote it enough! Co-founders at HackerOne began hacking when they were as young as 13. Today we see hackers as young as five disclosing vulnerabilities with a bit of help to businesses. Over 50 percent of our community today is under 24 and they regularly report bugs and win bounties. Young people are the future of security and they prove to be incredible hackers, as curious digital natives. There are great free tools available for today’s aspiring hackers like Google Gruyere and Hacker101 as well as the hacktivity of HackerOne with thousands of publicly disclosed reports to benefit from. TechNadu: In your view, a “dirty” term always hackes in today’s society? Are attitudes changed between the masses? Nevertheless, especially in recent years, we see the definition of the word ‘ hacker ‘ shifting. According to a new HackerOne survey of 2000 Americans, almost two-thirds of Americans (64 percent) believe not all hackers behave maliciously. While 82 per cent of Americans believe hackers will help expose device vulnerabilities in future versions to improve security. Millennials (age 18-34) are more likely to think that hacking is a valid occupation (57% vs. 31% of those aged 35 +). As Us presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke recently stated: “The mindset of hackers could be of great help to society. Hackers describe the world as it is not really how it is meant to be. “With ethical hacking on the rise, hacking is starting to claim its rightful place as a profession. With this year’s Santiago Lopez the first teen to receive more than $1 M in ethical hacking. TechNadu: What do you think is the bug with the highest impact ever found by HackerOne? In 2017 a technology company paid a hacker $75,000 for disclosing three specific vulnerabilities that created a remote code execution (Rce) when clustered together that needed no user interaction to exploit. The exploit chain could have allowed an attacker to steal credit card information deploying mass ransomware campaigns to take control of user accounts targeting employee accounts and accessing infrastructure code. This is just one example of a crucial finding that was posted on HackerOne by the expert hacker community. We’re all a little happier each time a weakness is safely fixed. TechNadu: Many organizations choose to build their own bug bounty services while others, including HackerOne, stick to platforms. Which one is better than the other? What do you think are some advantages and disadvantages? Lauren Koszarek: Working with a platform like HackerOne with a proven community and track record is far simpler with over 350000 hackers registered and more than 120000 customer vulnerabilities recorded. The hacker community of HackerOne is the world’s largest, making it easier for companies to attract top hacker talent for their programs. Most companies which launch their own programs end up joining HackerOne to work with our fantastic group. TechNadu: What do you think is the biggest threat we face today when it comes to cybersec? Lauren Koszarek: Internet connections and use have evolved exponentially over the past 20 years. Everyone is going online, and everything. The planet is addicted to the Internet. Ten years ago it would have been unheard of that cars would download and install their own software update over the radio. It’s absolutely normal today and we almost expect every car we buy from now on to do the same. New challenges emerge with technological advances that weren’t pre-internet comprehensible. The Hackers are the Internet’s immune system. We need hackers to ensure the world continues to evolve and to protect society. TechNadu: When it comes to security the IoT industry is notoriously bad. Have you got one of those devices at home? What is it you are doing to stay safe? Lauren Koszarek: Searching for better apps while shopping for IoT items, because you often get what you are paying for. Cheap tools frequently take shortcuts to reach a lower price point and the first thing that gets chopped is often health. Once you buy, you will understand how updates are done and how often (and how long) updates are planned. Eventually, find the functionality of the computer and if you need it. If you are not going to use your smartwatch to turn on and off your smart light bulbs or you are not considering using the internet browser of your smart Tv to disable it for security purposes. I encourage you to check the settings to see what’s available and to shut down the connections you’ll never use. A year ago, Reddit moderators reported the Iranian accounts and their actions but dismissed their complaints. Moderators attempted to contact Reddit workers more than two dozen times but did not receive any positive reaction. Hundreds of Instagram and Google Facebook accounts were taken down in July 2017 to classify the obscure news websites and their illegal social media posts but Reddit workers dismissed the information.
