Android Apps Hit By 40 percent More malware in 2018 According to the Latest ReportsBy Gabriela Vatu-November 7 2018.572 By the end of this year, 4 million samples of malware are projected to be found. There is plenty you can do to stay safe and keep your Android smartphone free from malware. According to G Data’s study, the overall number of mobile malware in 2018 has risen by around 40%, with some 3.2 million samples of malware being detected by the end of the third quarter of 2018. Indeed the forecast shows that by the end of the year the number will hit 4 million about a million over the total of last year. With around eight out of ten smartphone users worldwide owning an Android device, it’s no wonder cybercriminals are so focused on creating malware for this specific Os. The frequency with which Android users get their devices infected makes people think that it is not safe to use Android as a whole, but the problem is much more complicated. The high number of Android users is due to the fact that an open source operating system is used by what feels like a gazillion smartphone makers. Also, Android devices run on are always pretty cheap which makes buying one easy for anyone. Nonetheless, the low price means the hardware isn’t always good enough to take on the new version of Android and many manufacturers are late in providing critical updates.
ByNitish Singh-May 29 2018.574 According to research published by Morgan Stanley Google Play Store, revenue per app is 10 times lower. Similar to the Google Play Store, Apple still makes four times more net income. For each purchase made on the App Store, Apple generates revenue of $0.44 compared to the Google Play Store earning $0.10 per download. Even Google Play Store does not perform well when it comes to revenue generated per app compared to Apple App Store. When it comes to earnings per unit, Apple continues to outperform Google by more than 10 times. Google produces an average of $0.47 from each computer while Apple rakes in a good $5.08. .575 Figure 1 Morgan Stanley Picture Courtesy While the figures may seem like Android devices are not doing well when it comes to generating revenue Apple’s product pool is much smaller. Apple’s mobile ecosystem is stable and most of its users have the latest version of iOs that allows all of the new iPhone and iPad compatible apps available. Many Android devices outside the flagships do not receive timely updates and are ‘ outdated ‘ which makes it difficult for new or upgraded apps to run on them efficiently. Apple has on its side consistency with far greater optimisation across all its apps. .576 Since 2015, Apple has witnessed unprecedented growth of over 119 per cent from the App Store’s app sales and microtransactions. Compared to the past four years, the Play Store has seen just a 14 per cent increase in revenue. Apple’s closed-source environment makes it much more beneficial to Apple’s app company while Google is not even close to Apple’s figures. Although Morgan Stanley’s figures and data do not reflect how good or bad either platform is, it is quite interesting to see the massive gap between Apple and Google when it comes to their marketplace app sales and revenue.
