The Cheat Sheet: Which results from the survey shocked you most? Caroline Fairchild: While we surveyed people accept that there is a disparity in corporate finance culture that keeps holding women back, we were surprised to discover such a large gap between men and women when it comes to paying equality. Although 75 percent of males believe that men and women working at the same level are paid the same, only 40 percent of females believe that this is true in their businesses. It showed us that men and women still don’t see eye-to-eye on the severity of the issue when it comes to the gender pay gap. CS: Why do you think that men perceive the reality of the situation so differently than women? CF: In many cases where you don’t have direct experience, you can get an outsider’s perspective on a matter. We found that men claim they just don’t see the same problems women face. About three out of four male survey respondents commit to supporting men and women at an equal rate. More than half the female respondents were feeling the same way. Like anything in life if you have t lived through something relevant to it can be difficult.
