Graham Nash was born in Blackpool England on 2 February 1942. Nash exhibited a passion for music at an early age. Between Two Teens to The Levins to The Guytones the pair went through a number of different names for themselves. But it wasn’t until they linked up with three other musiciansEric Haydock (bass) Tony Hicks (lead guitar) and Don Rathbone (drums)that Clarke and Nash discovered a cohesive sound and the start of success. Shortly after with Top 10 hits like Stop Stop Stop (1966), The Hollies with Nash as one of its main songwriters started making inroads into the U.S. The Hollies tried to deliver with Nash leading the way, as the 1960s took shape and rock fans clamored for a more psychedelic sound to their music. Nevertheless, dissatisfaction with his bandmates and the urge to hit himself paved the way for Nash to leave the band in 1968. Nash had teamed up with another group of musicians David Crosby and Stephen Stills before the year was out, whom he had met during a Hollies tour. The trio immediately started performing together and their album Crosby Stills and Nash (1969) proved to be a huge success with hits like Marrakesh Express and Suite: Judy Blue Eyes. Neil Young joined the band later that year and the foursome got together to produce one of Woodstock’s most memorable performances. Nash’s new group, nicknamed supergroup by critics because of its array of highly regarded rock stars, reacted to their generation’s news and mood with songs like Woodstock (1970) and Ohio (1970) a reaction to an incident on the Kent University campus where four students were killed by National Guard soldiers.
