Good Old Downloads to Release Retro Nintendo GamesByNitish Singh-August 30 2018 “2/2.1928.jpg” Figure 1 Image Courtesy of CNET Nintendo was mocked by the website stating that Nintendo should have “gone for the head” instead of targeting smaller websites for emulation. The piracy website thinks the retro games would allow Good Old Downloads to significantly expand their catalog. Nintendo has recently been targeting emulation websites and it has certainly raised a lot of controversy. Popular piracy website Good Old Downloads revealed that in the near future retro games from Nintendo and other publishers would be made available on the website. Playing retro games is a popular pastime for many veteran gamers but things have become increasingly difficult with Nintendo taking down the ROM aggressively, and emulation websites. Although it is true that there should be no piracy there are no official channels for gamers to play their favorite old games. Even if users bought physical copies of old games, it would be through third-party resellers of pre-owned games that Nintendo or the developers behind the retro games would not generate revenue. “2/2.1929.jpg” Nintendo has tried to revive retro gaming by relaunching the Super NES Classic with modern hardware and a pack of thirty games. Nevertheless, other Japanese game business consoles have not been resurrected and the NES games library is also quite disappointing because hundreds of games have been released on the platform. Several NES games will make it to the Switch Online service which will be released later this year, enabling users to play classic titles on the Switch. Torrent services are still up and running for Nintendo ROMs, and users can always access the emulators to play on their Mac. The opportunity to quickly fire up a browser and start a game is simply no longer possible. Good Old Downloads has already listed on the website their Retro Games section with a “coming soon” banner to show that the games will be added to the website very early. Grip.
