In 1930 she married Blair Gordon Newell, a marriage that lasted only until 1934.
From a very young age, Gloria began to act in various university theater groups, playing various roles in various plays. This led to him getting a contract for the Universal studios in 1932.
From the hand of director James Whale, Gloria got several roles to intervene in various feature films, including “A Kiss Before the Mirror” or The Invisible Man.
In 1934 she married Arthur Sheekman, with whom she had a daughter.
At the end of the 30s, the actress changed companies, moving to 20th Century Fox, where she began to star in more profound films, such as “The Crime of Dr. Forbes”, where she gives life to the character of Ellen Godfrey. or in “Time Out for Murder”, where she plays Margie Ross.

In 1975 Gloria, was hired for the small screen, playing a role in the movie “The legend of Lizzie Borden.” From that moment the actress was receiving various contracts to work in that medium.
In 1982, the actress overcame breast cancer, while getting a contract to star in a role in the movie “My favorite year.”
In 1997, Gloria gets the role of her life. It was in the film Titanic, where she gives life to the elderly Rose DeWitt Bukater, an interpretation that was deserving of an Oscar nomination, as Best Supporting Actress, at the same time that she won the Actors Guild award, for this same performance.
The actress continued working until 2004, taking part in small roles in movies and on television.
On September 26, 2010, Gloria died of lung cancer.
