George Gervin was born on April 27, 1952, in the United States.
As a college student, he started in Long Beach, and after an incident, he continued in Eastern Michigan, where in the last 2 years he averaged 26.8 points and 14.4 rebounds.
He was chosen in the 1974 Draft by the Phoenix Suns, although he never played there, since he passed to the Virginia Squires of the ABA league.
The following year he played for the San Antonio Spurs, where in his second season he scored 63 points in the last game of the league and thus passed David Thompson as the leading scorer of that season by 6 hundredths of points (27.21 against 27.15).
It was the first of three consecutive seasons in which he would finish as the league’s top scorer. Then he would do it for the fourth time, in 1982, and would become the third to win the most top scorer titles, after Wilt Chamberlain and Michael Jordan.
In 9 seasons with the San Antonio Spurs, Gervin won 5 Midwest champion titles. He also averaged an excellent 27 points per game in the Playoffs.
He retired with 33 years in the Chicago Bulls, and keeps an NBA record, being the top scorer in a quarter-game with 33 points, in the 1977-1978 season.
