The company announced that its Tizen Os platform is capable of identifying and eliminating malware. Samsung is one of the most popular Smart Tvs manufacturers and the company is stepping up its product safety game. The Korean tech giant has collaborated with McAfee to provide antivirus software for their smart Tv line-up. Most consumers don’t like using McAfee software as it is perceived to be hostile with warnings and often regarded as “bloatware.” Nevertheless, smart Tv users could well receive a simplified version of the software. McAfee is known for its collaboration with a variety of hardware vendors, and the antivirus solutions offered by the software company are often seen in laptops. This is McAfee’s first major deal signed with a smart Tv maker. Both Samsung smart Tvs will come preloaded with the new antivirus software from McAfee to protect users against malware. In an official announcement Samsung gave insight into the contract with McAfee. The manufacturer of smart TV revealed that McAfee signed a contract in 2019 to have its “McAfee Protection for Tv” software pre-installed on all Samsung Smart Tvs made. Despite Samsung being the world’s number one smart Tv maker it is certainly a lucrative deal for McAfee at the moment. Samsung believes the pre-installed apps will be able to identify and uninstall malware. One of the company’s biggest drawbacks on smart tvs is that it runs a custom Tizen Os. It’s a custom operating system based on Linux that lacks the vast number of Play Store or App Store offerings. Tizen Os is popular for its process of installing an device. Users often rely on pre-installed apps, rather than going through the entire setup process. Having built in a security solution is certainly something many consumers would want and it remains to be seen how good the deal of McAfee is for smart TVs.
