The actor Fernando Díaz de Mendoza was born, in 1862, in Murcia.
Fernando was born into a family belonging to the aristocracy, and was Marquis of San Mamés and Fontanar, as well as Count of Balazote and Lalaing.
He founded the famous theater company for the actress María Guerrero, with whom he later married, and with her they went on a large number of tours through the European and American continents, with great success. They also founded a theater in Argentina.
The actor also directed the Madrid Conservatory for a time, and is considered a key element in the resurgence of classical theater in Spain.
He participated in the company of his wife in a large number of works, obtaining great successes, among which it is worth noting that achieved by his work in the work “El abuelo”, by the writer Benito Pérez Galdós.

It represented a large number of works written by Jacinto Benavente, among which we can highlight “Saturday night”, “The fire dragon”, “Autumn roses”, “Stronger than love”, “The baby princess”, “The vestal interests”, “The malquerida”, “Field of ermine”, “The Vestal of the West” or “The own estimation”.
Regarding his personal life, married as we have already said to María Guerrero, he had two children who also dedicated themselves to acting, Luis Fernando Díaz de Mendoza y Guerrero and Carlos Fernando Díaz de Mendoza y Guerrero. It should be noted that he had an illegitimate son, Fernando, with the actress Catalina Bárcena, which was a great scandal in his time.
In addition, he was the grandfather of two other acting greats, the actor Fernando Fernán Gómez and the actress Mari Carmen Díaz de Mendoza.
Fernando Díaz de Mendoza died in 1930 in the town of Vigo, in the province of Pontevedra.
