A Recent Huge 2.2 million Password Data Dump is posted on the Dark WebByBill Toulas-November 20, 2019.447 One of the sites revealing the data acknowledged the incident but gave a very different perspective. The passwords that have been spilled are hashed with bcrypt, so that they are not technically exploitable. There is a fresh data dump, which was found on the dark web and collected from recent hacks, according to ArsTechnica. The dump includes 2.2 million passwords and personal data records of GateHub and EpicBot users. The first is a cryptocurrency wallet service whilst the second is a RuneScape game bot provider. Starting with the GateHub the leak involves two-factor authentication keys email addresses mnemonic phrases wallet hash usernames and Ip addresses. GateHub has previously admitted the data breach and since a while ago, HaveIbeenPwned warned people about that. Nonetheless, the cryptocurrency platform had explained that something that is not true as we can see now was not affected by wallet hashes. Moreover GateHub reported that the security incident had impacted only 18473 users, but we are now discovering that the actual number is a jaw-dropping 1.4 million users. As for the EpicBot leak, the exposure concerns 800k users whose email addresses usernames Ip addresses and passwords which are bcrypt-hashed. Bcrypt is very difficult to crack so these passwords are secure for now even though they’ve fallen into hundreds if not thousands of malicious hands. The problem is whether or not the platform correctly implemented the hashing function. If not cracking instead traditional computing power could be used. The recognition feature for Amazon’s X-Ray content is finally available to Apple Tv users. The update is rolling out in phases and not all users have access to the functionality yet. X-Ray by Amazon is available through a collaboration between the company and Imdb. X-Ray app from Amazon Prime is one of the most useful ways to find out more about the content you are currently watching. Whether it’s an album or a movie scene; you can use the feature to recognise actors in a movie who are currently playing songs, and more. Given the functionality that has been available for quite a while, however, Apple Tv users have been left out of all this. The functionality has been discreetly implemented as part of a recent update for Apple Tv users. You just need to pause a video and swipe up to get access to information directly from Imdb to use X-Ray on your Apple Tv. The show or film has to be part of X-Ray’s catalog for the feature to function and not all content will be scannable. Not all users have just been given access to the feature while it is being slowly rolled out. You can delete the app and re-download it, which has worked for a number of users, if you want it faster. Figure 2 Image Courtesy of Best Apple Tv Users who checked the feature indicated that pausing and accessing the X-Ray feature allowed them to view bios of cast members and other shows they showed up in. Trivia details and other information for Apple Tv users can also be found as part of the update. This is not the first time that we have left out Apple Tv users when it comes to content or functionality from popular services. Users complained that Netflix show Bandersnatch competing against Chromecast’s likes and once that happens we could see a bigger user base and growth for the site. What do you think of Apple Tv’s new X-Ray feature? In the comments below please let us know. Grip.
