Eidur Gudjohnsen was born on September 15, 1978 in Reyjavik, Iceland. He is a footballer who currently plays for FC Barcelona, and he is the captain of that team.
At the age of 15, he managed to get into one of the best teams in the Icelandic capital, Valur, and was later bought by the Dutch PSV Eindhoven, sharing the team with Ronaldo, in one of his best times.
In 1996 he made his professional debut with the Icelandic National Team in a match against Estonia. As a rather curious fact, Eidur entered the team as a substitute, and replaced his own father, Arnór Gudjohnsen, something unprecedented in professional football.
After this, he went to play for KR Yeykjavik, and shortly after he went to the English Premier League, to play specifically with Bolton Wonderers, where he scored 21 goals in the 1999-2000 season. Soon after, and after showing his great level, he was transferred to Chelsea for 4 million pounds.
The coach of the “Blues” at that time was Gianluca Vialli, he was called up as a starter to Eidur, forming a fearsome duo with Hasselbaink in the 2001-2002 season in which Gudjohnsen scored 23 goals and his partner 27.
With the arrival of Roman Abramovich to the London club in 2003, he brought with him new reinforcements such as Adrian Mutu, Hernán Crespo or Didier Drogba, which made it difficult for Gudjohnsen to achieve a starting position as a forward.
With the departure of Mutu in 2005, he cleared the way for Eidur to start, and as a curious fact, in October 2004 he scored his first hat-trick (three goals in one game) against Blackburn Rovers.
On June 14, 2006, through a meeting with Barcelona, its representative, and representatives of Chelsea FC, they reached an agreement for his transfer to FC Barcelona, where Eidur uses the number 7 left by Henrik Larsson.
