Starting earning recognition in his final season at Fairfield University as head coach when he was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. He then took over the head coaching position at Providence College. He faced off against University of North Carolina head coach Roy Williams in the 2013-2014 NCAA Tournament second round, losing the game by two points. He started as an assistant coach at UMass-Dartmouth in 1994 and held assistant positions at three other schools before landing the head position at Fairfield.
