Don Omar – Biography of Don Omar

William Omar Landrón Rivera, better known as Don Omar, was born in Carolina, Puerto Rico, on February 10, 1978, and is a famous singer-songwriter and businessman, as well as being one of the pioneers of reggaeton in his country.

The artist was created in the bosom of a humble family, and began to compose his first songs and poems at the age of twelve. This work brought him closer and closer to Latin music, especially reggaeton, which emerged in the early 90’s in his country.

At the same time he was, for 4 years, pastor in the “Church of the Restoration in Christ in Bayamón“, where he was part of several bands that transmitted a Christian and deeply religious message.

In 2002, Hector The Bambino, a renowned artist who is part of the successful duo “Hector and Tito“, he listened to Don Omar, so he decided to sponsor him as a music producer. From that moment, the Carolina musician began to participate as a composer on songs by different artists, such as “The 9 plagues“, for which he composed several of his lyrics, as well as for”Titus“in his solo career.

A year later, he released his first solo album, called “The last don“, which included several classics, such as”tell him“,”Although you left“,”Give don give“,”Your body takes me away” Y “The night is good“, which led him to sell around 4 million copies, which gave him the Platinum Record.

In 2005, the album “Bandits“, which featured several world-famous themes, such as”Donqueo“,”Chemistry“,”We are going to give“,”Come on mommy hit it” Y “I will give you without fear“. In that same year, it was edited.”Da Hitman Presents Reggaeton Latino“, which is made up of remixes of his best hits.

The year 2006 came with “King of kings“, in which a very marked evolution was seen in the artist’s career, since it showed new rhythms such as Rock-Pop, and included several themes that were all the rage, such as”Tell him“,”Little angel“,”The sun came out” Y “Counting“.

The Puerto Rican artist’s fifth studio album was called “The Pentagon“, and it was released on March 27, 2007. Among the successes that comprise it, the following stand out:”Crazy life“,”Soft To The Ear“,”Ask for more“,”The toast” Y “With you“.

On April 28, 2009, he edited “IDon“, for which he made a strong bet with the duo”Wisin & Yandel“, which he beat after selling more than 100,000 more copies in a few weeks. This album has several classics, such as”Virtual diva“,”Sexy robotic“,”Sci-fi” Y “Galactic blues“.

Not everything in the artist’s life was rosy because, despite being very successful in sales, he was harshly criticized for his lyrics that refer to violence and unbridled sex.

Throughout his career he was repeatedly decorated, as in the “Billboard LA Awards“,”MTV LA“,”Ours“,”Latin Grammys“,”People’s Choice reggaeton awards“,”Oye Awards“,”Latin American Festival of Rome“,”Terra Awards” Y “XLVIII International Song Festival of Viña del Mar“, thanks to his performance as one of the main Reggaeton artists.
