Upon escaping from prison at the end of the League of Justice Lex was eager to assemble a formidable team of supervillains. Also wearing his trademark bald head, the Lex of Eisenberg appeared calmer and more composed than in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. And why not he? Lex’s violent mad habits are now public knowledge. Without hiding his true nature Lex will carry himself with greater confidence than before. This would allow Eisenberg to tone down the nervous tics and emotional unpredictability that made some of his initial output so off-putting. If he returns Eisenberg’s Lex could evolve into the character’s more classic version.

Yet the studio casting Eisenberg in that film is hard to imagine considering its links to the remnants of Snyder’s canon. Since we don’t know how the current DCEU would treat the Joker, there’s no precedent for how the Lex Luthor franchise will tackle it. Possibly the President Luthor movie could really stand alone, leaving Eisenberg with the chance to come back alongside Cavill or whoever will replace him as Superman.
