Smoking-Hot Medium Layered Curly Hair

QA with maker style riana Albornoz Co-owner / Curly Hair Expert @ A+M Beauty Lounge in Tampa Fl This is a curly hair shoulder length with textures and facial framing. Any advice that someone thinks about it? Don’t think about layers! Medium hairstyles for curly hair look best when they have layers or the dreaded triangle would end up. Find a stylist who can comfortably dry and curl curly hair by curl to give you a custom cut for your curls. We used a silicone-free (water-based) medium hold gel for her to use a diffuser that was placed upside down and tipped to the sides for maximum volume.

QA with Karlie Johnson DevaCurl style founder Stylist @ Frangipani Hair Studio at Jacksonville Beach Fl How would you describe this look? For sure, I’d call this look a beachy boho. It’s so sweet! As she came in for the cut, with this look she had an image of a boho girl in a bikini. It had a feeling of 60-70s. The advice that someone thinks about it? This look is fun and playful, and with the right product and technique, it can last a few days. For this look, I follow strongly the Deva Curl No Poo Transformation. I left a good quantity of Deva Curl Condition One conditioner in the shampoo bowl after I removed the curls to fix them. I used the Deva Curl Light Defining Gel and followed with the Deva Curl Frizz Free Foam then I started to remove as much moisture as I could with the Deva towel (strongly suggest using if you have natural curl). I cut it under the dryer and finished it with my diffuser for a more comprehensive look. I flipped her head upside down after it was completely dry and fluffed the curls! This look is great for someone who enjoys texture and wants to have fun with their curls. Just be aware that bangs can be more humidity work in the summer, so make sure that you always know what kind of extra maintenance you need to consider when styling. In general, bangs are just more work because every day you have to style them. If you’re a girl who’s washing and leaving, they might not be for you.

Curly Half Up Half Down ‘
Easy Big Curly Hair

With soft control and romantic wearability, this style is all about natural living-in texture. It’s that so many clients are asking for uber-popular look lately. The versatility is my favorite part about this look. The cut is long enough for a multitude of designs, and short enough to be easy to manage. The layers allow some crown volume to elongate the shape and angled pieces in the front open the face frame and attract attention to the eyes and cheekbones. The hair looks healthy, bright and full of life. Any advice that someone thinks about it? The best advice I could give to someone who wants to recreate this look is to know what ingredients you choose. Harsh sulphates will remove vital moisture from the hair, leaving it dry and hard to style. Silicones will leave a film on the hair strand and build up over time to create a cast that interferes with the vibration and elasticity of the shine. Our focus is on flexibility and control of hydration to achieve this look. It is vital to prepare curls with the right amount of moisture so that our looks can be played from day to night and from work. Hydration starts in the shower with our curly textures. DevaCurl Low-Poo Original Cleanser followed by DevaCurl One Condition to start this look off a deep cleaning of the scalp. The combination of two substances allows for easy slip when detangling and the necessary moisture was not extracted during the process because no sulfates were used. A great secret tool to help fight frizz is for parched strands leaving in a good bit of conditioner. After I detangled my finger with the conditioner, I rinsed very lightly and then scrunched to expel excess water while encouraging the pattern of curl. Flexibility was achieved through the use of DevaCurl Styling Cream with botanical conditioning agents that create touchable texture and control frizz. Often, as I run the cream over their curls like I’m icing a cake, I have my customers turn their head over. I’m not disrupting the curls, but I’m making sure they’re properly covered. I use DevaCurl Light Defining Gel for an additional control element that makes curls last for days. I gloss over the whole shape and scrunch it upwards to improve definition. This gel creates a zero moisture protection crunch barrier that adds brightness and repels frizz. The end result is tangible and controlled curls.

QA with Heather Hall Master Stylist and Curl Whisperer at Salon Lofts Clintonville in Columbus Oh How would you describe this look? The cut wasdone dry and I love the way dry cutting in natural curly hair brings out the best. This helps me to see where every curl wants to live and the best in the cut will thrive. The suggestions that someone feels about it? The journey with curly hair is a lifetime commitment! In order to achieve beautiful curly hairstyles like this, you first need to get rid of ingredients like silicones and sulfates that damage and weigh curly hair. You also need to understand the porosity and balance of the hair between moisture and protein to really offer what it needs to your body. We styled the hair wet (not dripping) in this photo and raked DevaCurl’s Frizz Free Volumizing Foam from roots to ends followed by the Spiralicious Gel of Jessicurl. I raked my finger until clumps of curls started to form and the hair was as smooth as silk. Then I used my hands or a cotton t-shirt to brush the hair out of the curls. Using my Babyliss diffuser fixture with a dryer setting at low heat and low airspeed, I diffused my hair until dry. Flip your hair upside down side up and back and forth while you’re drying to get the root lift!

QA with Tiffany Ivey Hairstylist style designer @ Renee’s Day Spa Salon in Modesto Ca How would you describe this look? I’d describe this look as beautiful and natural! The fact that a woman loves and respects her natural hair and appearance is my favorite thing about it. She doesn’t try to change it to be like anybody else or what the latest trendy style is. Let nature take her course let her hair do what she wants to do and work with what she has! Defines the natural texture by washing your hands with a no-poo detachment while the conditioner is still in the skin, then rinsing and applying a moisturizing styling cream to lock in the hydration. Let your hair air dry up to 80% (or completely dry) until you take a diffuser. As I said, let your hair do what it wants to do. Natural is lovely!

Sweet Curly Shag

Conservative Curly Locks

QA with> Lavish Salon in Providence Ri How are you going to describe this look and what is your favorite? What products do you recommend for this look to be maintained and recreated? I used the Super Cream Deva Curl to fashion her hair. This is a light, moisturizing cream that is perfect for fine to medium textured hair styling on clients. It gives you the look and feel softly subtle. I cut her hair just below the trendy length of the collarbone. It’s the perfect length to make your face shine and it’s still long enough to tie back. In the photo you can see her hair with very few long layers was long and drab. This look gave her curls no life on top and left them flat and straight due to her hair’s weight. Her curls spring back to life with this new haircut and brighten up her finest features. I was in love with her cheekbones, so I put a few layers around her face to emphasize them. What kind of customer do you suggest this look for? For someone wearing their hair curly and wanting some definition in their curl pattern that brightens them up without too much volume, this is a perfect haircut. Cascading Curly Wavy Hair

QA with> BristlePrim in Lancaster Pa How are you going to describe this look and what’s your favorite? My second favorite in this look is her new shape. This eliminates the rigid triangular shape with which she came in by picking up the heavy top layers and brings movement back into the line. Hair should be flowing with you, not feeling boxy. I love these waves of the waterfall! What products do you recommend for this look to be maintained and recreated? The hair needs moisture like all curly gals. They all deal with the dreaded frizz factor from wavy to corkscrew curls, so the products have to keep all the moisture locked in. A sulfate-free cleanser (which keeps oils in) and a silicone-free conditioner (silicones = synthetics are water blockers!) are important to use. I cleaned her scalp hydrated with Devacurl Delight Low-Poo and then scrunched Devacurl Delight One-Conditioner into Devacurl Believe-In leave-in conditioner on wet hair sopping. I finished the style with Devacurl Ultra Defining Gel scrunching. The customer may choose to either diffuse or dry air. I usually sit them under an ionic hair dryer in a salon setting to create the appearance of a dry natural air. I shake and re-scrunch the material cast out when it is completely dry. What kind of customer do you suggest this look for? For many curly girls, this is a universal look as far as the cut goes. Elevating layers so that they cascade over the other, together with proper styling, removes bulk. When hair reaches the length of the collarbone and past this looks for any curly girl with any face shape to consider a great low maintenance. If the hair is shorter than the length of the collarbone, then in our consultation we will have to consider the texture and lifestyle of the face. I haven’t met a curly girl who couldn’t pull off a dynamic look when it comes to color! How else can curls be shown?

Big Curls BouncyWhat kind of customer would you recommend this look for? This look is perfect for any lifestyle client. The color is easy to maintain and is neutral.

Medium-Short Curly Hair

QA with> Barbara Barbara in Chicago Il How are you going to describe this look and what is your favorite? I’d describe this look as a curly shag modified in Prince style. I love the retro looks coming back and allowing reinvented trends of all kinds. It was so inspiring and fun to be able to change a curly texture-based look. I love to be able to add volume and height to curls. Making shapes with curly hair and especially this kind of cut provides a lot of versatility on a daily basis with which a customer can have fun. What products do you recommend for this look to be maintained and recreated? This products work best with a bit of heat, so after applying, I would spread for a few minutes. You can leave the hair dry or finish with the diffuser to air the rest of the way. You can also use the Powder. Puff from Kevin Murphy to add volume. To keep this look smooth, keep it every two to three months with a reshaping slice. If the top layers begin to get too long you will not be able to get as much height and the shape will begin to fall. What kind of customer would you recommend this look for? For this, the best type of customer is anyone who wants a nice shag to rock! If someone has the confidence they’re going to pull it off. What is nice about this shape is the ability to cut it on straight or curly hair. To have bangs or not to frame your face, you can also modify it. So if you want a shag’s fun, but perhaps not the bangs maintenance, it’s a totally doable look. The cut requires regular trimming so it may not be the best choice for your lifestyle if you can’t make it to your stylist every two or three months. Try it and see why you never know it might be the most perfect look for you! Tight Curly Hair

Roll up those locks from roots to ends to create kinky hair.

QA with Sara Maria Owner / Styist style creator @ The Beatnik Box in Coral Gables Fl How do you describe this look? I’d characterize this look at the same time as being light-hearted and sassy. My guest wanted to maintain its length while keeping the ultimate volume and movement.
