Clyde Drexler – Biography of Clyde Drexler

Clyde Drexler was born on June 2, 1962, in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States.

He played at the University of Houston, where he played alongside Hakeem Olajuwon and Larry Michaux, and despite being favorites, the Houston team was defeated in the 1993 NCCA finals against North Carolina State.

He was chosen in the 14th position of the NBA Draft in 1983 by the Portland Trail Blazers. He helped his team make it to the NBA Finals in 1990 and 1992, alongside his teammates, Terry Porter, Jerome Kersery, Buck Williams and Clifford Robinson.
In 1992 he played the Olympics in the American team, called the Dream Team, and won the gold medal. He finished second in the MVP vote behind Michael Jordan in the 1991-1992 season.

In February 1995 Clyde was signed by the Houston Rockets, following the player’s request to be traded to a team with the prospect of winning the title. Drexler returned to play with his friend Hakeem Olajuwon, with whom he played in “High School” and in college, and together they won the NBA title in 1995.

He retired after the end of the 1997-1998 season, and his jersey was retired by both teams (Portland Trail Blazers and Houston Rockets) with number 22.

He was a fairly complete player, as he had good averages in: points, rebounds, assists, blocks and steals.
He is one of the only 3 NBA players to have at least 20,000 points, 6,000 rebounds and 6,000 assists in his career.
