One of the most recognized and prominent surfers in the world is the young Clay March, born on July 17, 1989 in California, United States. This young athlete has stood out for his unique way of dominating the waves, as he has a style called “Double joint” which is based on going round and round on the board, this being the most acclaimed for being creative and innovative.

Clay Marzo has been the center of attention from a very young age both in his family environment and in the schools in which he has been. As a result of his strange somewhat withdrawn and not very social behavior, after an arduous study he was diagnosed, when he was still very young, that he suffered from Asperger syndrome, with mild features of autism. This is how his family and teachers understood his strange behavior.

His syndrome never affected his creativity and cognitive power, quite the contrary, compared to other young people his age, Clay was quite innovative and determined. He was always very fond of wave riding and swimming, so much so that when he was only 10 years old he won the 200 meters freestyle in the Hawaii Championship. At the age of 10 he began to practice surfing and a year later he participated in the competition of the National Surf School in Hawaii, where it is in third place.

His dexterity on the table led him to win the National NSSA title becoming the NSSA National Champion still very young.

For 2007 he was nominated as the surfer who best maneuvers he has performed on the table, the following year he stood out as the Man of the Water. His perfection in the water has made him participate in some series and movies, along with other prominent surfers such as Kelly slater, Dane reynolds Y Julian Wilso, with them participated in The Young Guns Crew.

He has also participated in Stranger Than Fiction. A documentary film has also been made in his name entitled Clay Marzo Just Add Water, in this documentary he talks about his dexterity on the board and how he copes with Asperger’s syndrome

The pressure that this young athlete suffered because he could not be like other surfers is well known, many times he was disqualified for wanting to follow their rules or not abiding by those imposed in the championships. Today and after having passed that stage, Marzo is a young man with many expectations, wanting to continue to triumph in the world of surfing.

March participates today in an NGO dedicated to children with autism who have skills for this sport of Surfing.
