Young women have become the hottest trend tinting their hair ash gray – while older women embrace their natural long silver hair as a sign of self-acceptance. Whatever your reasons for having gray hair – pushing the status quo is definitely one way. Read on to find out how I embraced my long silver hair – and why I love it!
How My Gray Hair Journey started
I was sitting with a friend in the San Fernando Valley watching our children play and talking about life. I was on the brink of divorce, wavering between hopelessness and anticipation. I realized that I was ready for a big change and we laughed and fantasized excitingly – as only women can. How are we going to make our mark? It was 2010 and I’ve been years old. There was a lot of talk at the time – even though we now read it in endless tweets on a daily basis – about the notion that the path to success is through our most authentic self-discovery. I liked it, and it was reasonable. While I was thinking about this at home, I wondered how I could apply this to my life. I had just enrolled as a yoga teacher-trainer. I began to reconnect with the person I wanted to become through yogic philosophy – instead of the woman I was supposed to become. So after years of hair dyeing, I decided to really start living! 
Being my true self meant I wouldn’t hide who I was anymore. I was no longer willing to fight to keep my marriage – nor was I willing to fight to keep what was meant to be a youthful look. To embrace my truth was an act of defiance. I made the choice of shortening my locks and going through a year-long growing process. In 2011 my hair was more salt and pepper than brown, but in this cycle I had two years and eventually lovely and healthy long silver skin. As an older model, I was ready to start my new career. Entering the market as a classic gray hair model enabled me to use this platform to help women feel free.
How I Look After My Gray Hair
In the last two years my routine has changed radically! Thanks to fluctuating hormones, life stressors and diet, I went from voluminous long silver locks to thin and brittle hair. Southern California’s summer climate is suitable for shorter hairstyles. So I’ve moved away from long gray hairstyles to give my hair a fuller look – and now the hairstyle I wear is a little shorter. I recently started using Pura’dor every two days to improve scalp health and help prevent hair loss. People always tell you that the better it will be the less you wash your hair. What I actually found was the reverse – by trapping the hair follicles, the oils caused my strands to fall out! I think it’s important to take care of your hair from within as well. I take a Biotin vitamin supplement to make sure my hair gets the nutrients it needs. I also use Aveda Thickening Tonic to add thickness and volume and shampoo Clairol Shimmer Lights to refresh and brighten my silver hair. My routine of styling involves a lot of hair brushing and rare use of heated tools. I always treat myself to a coconut oil scalp massage once a week – it feels great! I hope my hair care routine will reinforce my hair and restore its original luster. 
My Favorite Silver Hairstyles to Wear
When it comes to hairstyles I like to look natural and easy to match my head. The trick is usually done by a simple French twist with a chopstick. However, there are days that call for a sexy or youthful hairstyle that is more sophisticated.
Messy High Updo
If your hair is wavy like mine, this is your hack styling. Using large soft sponge rollers to smooth the kinky hair while searching for a messy updo. If you’ve had a blow-out, you won’t need it – your updo will look effortless and elegant of course! Use bobby pins to hold the bun in place when your hair is nice and smooth loosely swirl it into a bun on top of your head. ‘

‘ Brushed-Back Voluminous Locks’
‘ Brushing and combing in any direction generates enough volume for me. When I have to rush out the door – but I’m using dry shampoo desperately to add a little oomph to my locks. It always works!

We like to splurge on beauty as girls occasionally. Fortunately I’m working in my business with a hair stylist! In this picture you see the creation of my friend Donna. On clean and dry hair, she used a large curling iron. She loosely and around the iron wrapped my woven locks. We sprayed hairspray generously – and the look was complete! 603.jpg” />

I enjoy changing things up when it comes to hairstyles! A part of the side can be sexy and fun. I love a sweeping boom and with a side part, it’s easy to do that. Whether your hair is straight or wavy, this elegant look can still be created. 
Hairstyle – Plus Hat!
I like to wear hats!! We make a look more interesting instantly – and they’re such a great accessory. Hats are also my go-to when the air is cold and you need to shield your locks against the wind – but you don’t need a reason to wear a hat! 
Bardot Bangs
I always thought bangs were funny and young! I look for stylish bangs once a year to get inspired by taking a stack of pictures to my stylist and telling me to do it! I’m lucky that when I need it I can always brush my hair back. Bangs are flirty – and a monotonous look can easily be turned.
