Christopher Jonathan James Nolan, was born in London, England, on July 30, 1970. His father was English and his mother American.
His vocation as a film director would be seen from an early age, at the young age of 8 years. With his father’s Super 8mm camera and his toys as actors, Nolan would begin filming his first scenes.
Christopher studied at Haileybury University, an independent school in Hertfordshire. He then studied English literature at University College London, which allowed him to acquire important knowledge for writing and screenwriting.
This opened a wide margin for him as a future director and screenwriter of films, and that is how he began with the making of several short films, such as: Tarantella, which was screened in 1989 in an independent film screening on PBS called Image Union; Larceny, which was projected in 1996 in the Cambridge Film Festival; and finally Doodlebug, his best short film made to date. The latter was starred by the actor Jeremy Theobald.
In 1997, Christopher married the production company Emma thomas, with whom later and to date they have 4 children and live in Los Angeles, California, USA.
But he did not make the big leap until 1998, the year in which he made his first feature film called “Following “ in which he recruited again Jeremy Theobald, who had starred in his last short film. Despite this work, Nolan still couldn’t become a world-renowned director.
But two years later, Nolan returns to the fray with his second feature film, called “Memento”. This film, starring Guy pearse Y Carrie Anne Moss, tells the story of a man who, after suffering an enormous trauma while trying to save his wife, chronically loses his memory. But what is fantastic about this film is not the story, but the originality and complexity with which it is written and told. “Memento” managed to place Nolan among the most acclaimed directors of the day.
In 2002, he released his third film called “Insomnia”, based on the book of Stephen King, starring Al Pacino, who plays a policeman who arrives in Alaska to discover a strange crime.
But it was not until 2005 that Nolan became one of the most acclaimed directors in the world, after launching the prequel to the film. Black knight from the comics, “Batman starts”. With this film, Nolan manages to achieve a total affection and devotion on the part of all the fans of Batman throughout the world, having made the best film production of the Knight of the Night so far, making forget at times the previous productions of Tim Burton. This film brings together a cast of top-level actors, led by Christian bale, and followed by Morgan freeman, Liam Neeson, Michael Caine, Katie holmes and many more. The critics cataloged this film as the best film based on a comic so far.
Following the sensational success of “Batman starts”, in August 2008, the continuation of said film, called “The Dark Knight” (“The dark knight”), a film that not only critics classified as the best sequel of all time, even comparing it with “The Godfather 2”, but it became the highest grossing premiere in the history of cinema, and the film based on a comic that raised the most money of all time, reaching US $ 405.7 million in just 19 days, surpassing the US $ 403.7 million that had grossed the highest grossing film so far: “Spider-Man 3”.
With this film, Nolan establishes himself as the most successful director of recent times.
