Cesar Pelli – Biography of Cesar Pelli

On October 12, 1926, Carlos Pelli was born in the province of Tucumán, Argentina.

From a very young age Carlos always showed great interest in architecture and for the remarkable buildings that were in the different countries of the world at that time.

Carlos studied architecture at the National University of Tucumán and as soon as he finished his training, he began to work on different projects within his country.

In 1952, he moved to the United States, where in a short time he gets the nationality of that country.

His first project carried out was a vacation home for what would be his future in-laws.

A short time later, and during the time of the Perón government, Pelli built a large number of social housing in his country.

A few years later, he moved to the United States again, together with his wife, the landscaper Diana Balmori.

In Los Angeles he carries out various architectural projects, including the Japanese embassy in the United States.

In 1977, Pellí was appointed dean of Yale University. Later, he is distinguished with the Gold medal of the National Institute of Architects of the United States.

In 1997, he planned and carried out the construction of the Petronas Tower in Kuala Lumpur.

CEMEX awarded him the Award for Life and Work in 2006. In turn, the Konex Foundation of Argentina gives him the award that he carries this same name to the most relevant figure in the field of architecture.

Pelli, is the author, among other great constructions, of the expansion and renovation of 53rd and Fifth and Sixth Avenues in New York.

Likewise, among the projects it has carried out, is the Word Financial Center, that is, the set of buildings located around the Twin Towers, The Crystal Tower in Madrid, the Repsol YPF Tower, the Republic Tower in Buenos Aires or the Center for Dramatic Arts in Charlotte, among other.
