Caco Senante – Biography of Caco Senante

The singer Caco Senante was born on October 25, 1949 in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, in the Canary Islands, Spain.

He began his career in the 70s. He started with popular songs from Latin America, but soon began to compose his own songs.

Caco is considered one of the pioneers of what has come to be called the New Canarian Song.

In 1976 he released his first album, “Entre amigos”, and in 1978 the second, called “¿Qué te pasa tierra mía?”. Both are included in the so-called protest song. And at this stage, that of the Spanish transition, the singer used to perform in concerts organized by political or social groups. Some of the songs on both albums were very successful, such as “Yo poeta declaro” or “Ser gaviota”.

In 1980 his third album was released, “Chateaubriand”, coinciding with a change in the author’s style, who seemed to lean more towards salsa. The single “Una gaviota en Madrid”, included in the album, stands out.

Caco talks a lot in his songs about themes related to the Canary Islands, and puts music to many poems by Canarian authors.

In 1982 he released “Mojo Picón”, perhaps the most popular of all the albums he has released, followed by others such as “And then … let them put sauce on it”, “Make a game”, “You are going to find out”, “Crazy poison ”Or“ Isleño ”.

In 1995 he released “Same as yesterday”, in which Pablo Milanés also collaborated, later releasing “Canarias sin distante”, “En la puta calle”, “A thousand ways” and “The best of the best”.

He also has 2 compilations, “With mojo and sauce” and “Gaviota en tierra”.

He has done some collaboration on the small screen, specifically playing a small role in the series “Farmacia de Guardia”, at the beginning of the 90s. And he also worked on the radio, collaborating, on the SER network, in the program ” Turn around”.

In 2011 Caco’s career suffered a serious setback, when he was accused of having taken part in the SAGA case.
