With over 200 victories he began winning more races and earning more money than any stock-car driver in history. His great popularity and financial success earned him his nickname and President George Bush made a point of being present on his final professional race in 1992. Since Richard Petty retired he made an unsuccessful attempt as a stock-car racing television broadcaster. Until passing the torch to his son Kyle Petty a decade later he became an operating owner too. Petty was the only driver to ever win his 500th race start until he was joined by Matt Kenseth in 2013. Statistically he’s the most experienced driver in the sport’s history and is one of the most famous figures in motorsport as a whole. Petty is an official member of the Hall of Fame. In 2010 he was inducted into the Hall.
