Edgar A. Cano was born in Los Angeles County California on 15 May 1970. Yet later he dropped the last name of his biological father and adopted that of his stepfather. His parents are both Mexican. Bravo was a very involved youth, as he developed a music and sports passion. By age 10, he learned how to play the guitar and was a member of the American football team by his high school. Besides this, Eddie was part of the wrestling team of the academy. Eddie Bravo had performed in several rock bands throughout the 1980s. In 1991, he eventually moved to Hollywood California, with the hopes of beginning his music career. He founded a rap-metal and goth band of his first music band called Blackened Kill Symphony, but it wasn’t quite good. Bravo even worked as a DJ to get himself sponsored. Bravo was trained as a member of the famous martial artists Machado family in the Brazilian jiu-jitsuby Jean Jacques Machado. Between 1996 to 1998 he also trained in the martial arts method Jeet Kune Do. On completion of his training Bravo decided to quit any other form of martial arts to focus entirely on the jiu-jitsu. In relatively quick succession he won both a blue belt and a purple belt. He also created his own signature tactics including the submission hold on the spinal lock and the rubber guard.
