Benjamin McLane Spock He was born on May 2, 1903, in New Haven, Connecticut; his father Benjamin Spock Ives, was a Yale graduate and longtime general counsel to the New Haven Railroad.
The oldest of six children, Spock He was raised in the strict authoritarian style that advocated such methods as forced weaning, early toilet training, and not playing with children. From an early age, he used to take care of his younger siblings and developed a great interest in the field of children’s education, especially in the psychoanalytic aspects of development.
He was strongly influenced by his training in psychiatry and developmental psychoanalysis, which helped him establish a different philosophy of parenting, focused more on family relationships than on raising a child.

He received his early education in private preparatory schools and later went to Phillips Academy. From 1921 to 1925, he attended Yale University and majored in English literature. He was also a member of the rowing team that represented the United States at the 1924 Olympics in Paris, France.
In 1925, he attended Yale medical school before transferring to Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1927, where he completed his studies, graduating in 1929.
Between 1933 and 1944, he practiced pediatric medicine. Simultaneously, he was a professor of pediatrics at Cornell Medical College and served as a consultant in pediatric psychiatry for the New York City Department of Health.
In 1943, during a summer vacation, he began to write his most famous book “The Common Sense Book of Baby and Child Care“, which he continued to write from 1944 to 1946, while serving as a medical officer in the navy. The book was published in 1946 and became a worldwide success. Over the years, the book was translated into many languages and became one one of the best sellers of all time.
After being discharged from the navy, he worked with the famous Mayo Clinic (1947-1951). From 1951 to 1955, he was appointed Professor of Child Development at the University of Pittsburgh and later became associated with Case Western Reserve University, between 1955 and 1967.
In 1962, he was also named co-chair of SANE, an organization dedicated to stopping nuclear bomb tests in Earth’s atmosphere. In 1967 he was nominated as a vice presidential candidate accompanying Martin Luther King at the Conference for New Policies in Chicago.
In 1972, he competed in the United States presidential elections with the Popular Party (an independent political party). During the 1970s and 1980s, he lectured against nuclear weapons and cuts in social welfare programs.

In 1976, he married Mary Morgan, who had previously organized speeches and workshops for him. She helped him with her autobiography titled “Spock on Spock“which was published in 1989
Benjamin Spock died on March 15, 1998, at his home in La Jolla, California, after a tough battle with cancer. His ashes were buried in Rockport, Maine.
