Barry Gibb – Biography of Barry Gibb

Barry Alan Crompton Gibb, was born September 1, 1946 in Douglas, Isle of Man. With his father and brothers he spent his childhood and adolescence in Chorlton-cum-Hardy, in Manchester, England.

But in 1958 his family traveled to Brisbane, Australia, and they settled in one of the poorest suburbs of the city called Cribb Island, destroyed years later to build the Brisbane airport.

Next to his brothers Robin Y Maurice, I form the band The Bee Gees, reaching great success and remembered and sounded up to the present time. The band had its beginnings in Australia but when they returned to England they were surprised by the great success of which they were victims.

Barry became known for his particular way of singing in falsetto.

On September 1, 1970, at the age of 30, he married the Scottish Linda Gray, winner of Miss Edinburgh. Barry chose that date, the same day as his birthday because that way he would never forget his anniversary, commented in a 1979 biography of the Bee Gees, Linda his wife.

The couple had 5 children Stephen born in 1973, Ashley in 1977, Travis in 1981, Michael who was born in 1984 and Alexandra, the last born in 1991. Now they have 5 grandchildren Nina and Angus, children of Stephen, Lucas John, son of Asheley, Damien Michael son of Michaerl and Layla Victoria, daughter of Travis.

Early 2006 Barry bought the home of country music legends Johnny Cash and June carter Cash located in Hendersonville, Tennessee. His goal was to renovate it and turn it into a lyric composition retreat. But due to a fire that occurred on April 10, 2007, it was totally destroyed.

Because of this, Barry decided to move to Miami Beach and reside there and in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire.

Barry and 4,500 other musicians took an entire page of advertisements in the Financial Times calling on the British government to extend in 50 years of copyright protections to make sound recordings in England. Known as Fair Play for Musicians, it was seen as a direct response to the Gowers Review, published by the government on December 6, 2006, making recommendations on the 50-year retention for sound recording.

Gibb was a mentor of four contestants finalist of 2007 american idol and in one of his episodes he sang his song “To Love Somebody”.

Among other of his tasks, it should be noted that it was he who composed the musical theme for ITV´s Grease is the world. Before releasing his latest album, Gibb published the song Drown on the river of iTunes, this topic was part of the movie Offer that starred Burt Reynolds.

On March 14, 2009 he and Olivia Newton John hung out for an hour at the final night of a 12-hour star studded live concert. Sidney Cricket Groun which was held in the city of Sydney. The main objective was to raise funds to help all the victims of February 2009, after the great fire that ended with populated areas of forest and with part of southeastern Australia
