After the dissolution of Eurythmics in 1991, the vocalist Annie Lennox, born December 25, 1954, began a solo career that rivaled that of the Eurythmics in terms of popularity.
Born and raised in Aberdeen, Scotland, Ann Lennox she started playing music as a child, learning piano and flute. In his teens, he won a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music in London, but dropped out before rendering his final. For the next several years, she worked in London, doing various jobs during the day and singing at night.
In the late 1970s, he met guitarist Dave Stewart through a friend. Stewart, who had previously played with Longdancer, asked Lennox to join a new band he was forming with a songwriter named Peet Coombes. The band was called The Tourists, released three albums between 1979 and 1980, and took fourth place in the UK with a cover of “I Only Want to Be with You“from Dusty Springfield.
While collaborating on The Tourists, Lennox and Stewart became lovers. Soon, tensions within the band grew, and by 1980 the couple had left the band to start Eurythmics. In the early ’80s, Eurythmics’ sleek synth pop became one of the most popular sounds of the new wave, racking up numerous hits in both the US and UK, including “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)“,”Love is a stranger“,”Who’s that girl” Y “Here Comes the Rain AgainMidway through their career, Eurythmics began looking for a more straightforward and simple rock & roll sound.
Lennox delivered his second solo album, a collection of covers titled jellyfish, in 1995. Reaching number 11, Medusa spawned the single “No More I Love You’s“and went platinum in late 1995. Lennox took time off to raise her son and become more actively involved in humanitarian efforts.
Eight years after the release of Medusa, he returned with Bare, one of the strongest and most personal albums of his career. After another break, he released Songs of Mass Destruction in September 2007 and made plans to embark on an extensive North American tour, beginning in October.
Three years later, Lennox returned to recording with his first Christmas album, entitled A Christmas Cornucopia. In 2014, he delivered another cover album, Nostalgia produced by Mike Stevens. The following year, he relaunched the album as Nostalgia: An Evening with Annie Lennox, which included both the original studio album and a bonus Blu-Ray disc of their live PBS concert recorded on the stage of the historic Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles, with a total of 19 pieces.
