There was even a period in their history when Thursday nights The Office Parks and Recreation 30 Rock and Community were all on in the same two hour block. By then, The Office 30 Rock and Parks and Recreation have both come to a satisfactory end while Community has been unceremoniously scrapped only to be picked up for its streaming service by Yahoo!. The aftermath after what was a golden age of NBC’s comedy lineup hasn’t been pretty. There’s a real laundry list of fast-axed shows that make up their programming graveyard causing one to ask: What happened in the name of all that’s holy? The response is it happened to CBS. Somehow the power of the shows that no one will ever describe as smart comedies has turned CBS into the country’s single most-watched network. Three-camera sitcoms like Two and a Half Men and The Big Bang Theory as well as dramas like The Mentalist and NCIS have been borne on the back. When you look at the current comedy schedule of NBC, it is made up of four series, none of which have been airing for more than a year. This is representative of the rotating door that has plagued the network since the shows like The Office and 30 Rock went away. Why would someone go for their laugh-track sitcoms somewhere else when they already have perfectly well-established offers in other networks? It’s left NBC scrambling in the dust to put together a team to counter the CBS tidal wave. For Parks and Recreation, the airwaves have just left for good NBC is bidding goodbye to the only sitcom that is actually airing and has lasted more than three seasons. Parks and Rec Group 30 Rock and The Office’s “Big Four” represent their only comedies to achieve this feat in the last five to six years. The future does not look particularly promising either because their other rivalry at Fox produces shows like Brooklyn Nine-Nine produced by some of the same people in charge of 30 Rock and Parks and Rec. For NBC to thrive as a network of comedies it will have to decide what it wants to be. It has not yet succeeded for them to break the gap between sitcoms and single-camera shows and it is seen in their ratings. According to TV By the Numbers NBC is the third most watched network in terms of overall viewership mainly carried by dramas such as The Blacklist and Law and Order: SVU. Their comedy line-up will have to follow suit for them to take the next step into prominence.

What exactly is a hashtag? A hashtag is very simple in itself. It is a word or phrase that begins with the hash or pound character # to mark a subject on another social network in a tweet or a message. Unlike other aspects on modern websites and applications the hashtag wasn’t thought up by someone behind a social network but was invented by an early Twitter user instead. Chris Messina, a developer user experience designer and open web supporter who co-founded the Citizen Agency and BarCamp in 2007, sent the first hashtag tweet. The tweet suggested using the pound or hash symbol to indicate a message’s context: “how you feel about using # (pound) for classes. As is the case with # barcamp[msg ]? The hashtag was based on the idea of building Twitter channels and was intended as a so-called “channel tag” to both categorize a tweet and help others understand the conversation meaning by making the subject visible. og post from 2007 Messina also built a mockup of pages that showed what “tag networks” would look like. But Messina claims that when he spoke to Twitter, the executives of the organization “told me flat out that these stuff are for nerds. Hashtags make your posts faster and more searchable for others to find. You will find what you wrote by looking for the hashtag you used in your posts if you tweet on a public account or make your posts public on Facebook. You can both search for a hashtag on most social networks, or click on one in a post to find all the posts marked with that specific hashtag. Clicking a hashtag on Twitter will show you all the tweets labelled with that hashtag. On Facebook where not everybody has the hashtag feature yet clicking on a hashtag will show you all the related results from posts that have been shared with you. If Public is set to a post that contains a hashtag and the user invites others to follow him or her then that post will be open to anyone who clicks on the hashtag. Although Instagram allows users to add up to 30 hashtags to each of their posts, it’s worth noting that many find it a “best practice” hashtag never to use more than two hashtags in a tweet or Facebook update, as using too many hashtags can interrupt or confuse your friends or followers.

Where come the hashtags?

This may be the strongest question that comes to the heart of why hashtags may be confusing. Hashtags aren’t generated by Facebook Twitter or whatever social network they appear on. Instead any user can create a hashtag by adding a Facebook update or an Instagram post to a tweet. Hashtags are becoming increasingly popular as hundreds of thousands, or even millions of users follow them to categorize their messages. It’s always a good idea to do some research on the subject of your Facebook tweet update or Instagram post to find out about the existing hashtags. Chances are good that the community of a social network has already developed a hashtag for the topic on which you are posting, and particularly if you want to use a hashtag to get more people to see your post it is important to make sure that you are using a hashtag that many users already know or follow.
