The writer Almudena Grandes Hernández was born on May 7, 1960 in the city of Madrid.
After completing his secondary studies, he enrolled at the Complutense University of Madrid, where he studied Geography and History. Upon graduation, he began working for an encyclopedia, writing texts for it.
In 1989 he published one of his best known works, The ages of Lulu”. It was her first novel, but she already established it as a writer, since with it she won the The Vertical Smile Award and it was a great sales success. Additionally, it was adapted by director Bigas Luna, who made a movie based on the book.
After two years he wrote his second novel, which he called “I will call you friday”. Against all odds, the play was not as successful as expected. However, in 1994 the writer regained great notoriety when she published “Malena is a tango name”, Which gets a great success and is also taken to the big screen, this time by director Gerardo Herrero.
In 1996 he published a compilation of several of his articles, under the name of “Women’s modelsr ”. The work contained several stories, one of which, entitled “The language of the balconies”, Was also chosen to turn it into a feature film, directed by Juan Vicente Córdoba. The film was named Although You Don’t Know It.
At the end of the 90s and the beginning of the millennium, he continues to publish works, among them “Atlas of human geography“,” Difficult airs “or” Cardboard castles “, the first two also taken to the cinema, having been directed by Azucena Rodríguez and Gerardo Herrero, respectively.
Almudena writes a column in the newspaper El País, and also participates in some radio programs. It has declared itself openly as akin to the United Left, and many times there has been controversy surrounding it due to statements made against the Popular Party or the right wing of some radio stations.
