He has two sisters (Terry Anne) and a brother (Jim) in New York. Leykis is of Jewish and Ukrainian descent fromIreland. His Jewish grandfather, who lived in Kyiv Ukraine, probably emigrated to Lithuania and later to the United States at the turn of the 20th century to avoid the ongoing anti-Semitic pogroms in the Russian Empire.
At a point in Leykis youth, he moved to SeldenLong Island with his family where he finished high school and graduated from Newfield High School at 16. He then moved to study broadcasting atFordham University from his family home and dropped out due to financial problems.
