On October 19, 1931, Manuel García Escobar, known in the world of song as Manolo Escobar, was born in El Ejido, in Almería.
His parents were Antonio García and María del Carmen Escobar, who had 10 children.
His father knew in his day an old school teacher who had lost his family. Antonio picked him up at his house and the teacher taught all his children a little music as a thank you.
Some of the García brothers learned to play different instruments, forming a group that they named “The children of Antonio García”.
In 1946, Manolo decided to change of scene and go to Barcelona, a city to which he moved with two of his brothers.
In Barcelona they began to perform under the name of “Manolo and his guitars”And shortly after another of the brothers would join them.
In 1958, the group began to record their first singles, which achieved great success at the time.
In 1959 he married Anita Marx.
In 1961, he mounted his own show in the city of Córdoba, from where he began to achieve great success throughout Spain. It is in this show that he records his song “Porompompero” for the first time.
In 1962 he took part in his first film, “The guerrillas”.
During this decade of the 60s, Manolo intervened in more than a dozen films and recorded more than 80 albums, of which more than 30 are considered Gold Records.
During the 70’s he recorded almost two dozen LPs, among which the most notable were “Por los paths de España”, “Every tear of yours“Or”You are beautiful“, among other.
In 1978, Manolo and Anita adopt Ana Vanessa García Marx.
In the 1980s, Manolo suffered financial difficulties due to mismanagement in the world of fashion, for which he would owe almost 400 million pesetas, about 2,146,000 euros.
However, during the 80s and 90s the singer would continue to record more LPs, highlighting among them, “Traditional carols“,”Courage“,” Sighs of Spain “or”Aromas”, Among other great successes.
In 2002 he underwent a heart operation where two baipass were inserted.
In 2010, he underwent surgery again, this time for colorectal cancer.
In 2012, as a result of a fall, a plaque had to be implanted in his neck.
This same year, Manolo communicated in a Spanish television program that he was retiring from the stage, after having been on them for more than 50 years.
On October 24, 2013, Manolo Escobar died of colon cancer which had already been operated on three years earlier.
