Upon graduating in 1981, he formed a small theatrical group called Actor’s Gang, together with which he devoted himself to performing avant-garde plays, which dealt with mostly socio-political issues.

His moment to marry would come, in 1988; and he did it with the actress Susan Sarandon, whom he would have met during the filming of the Durham movie “The Buffaloes”.

In the 90s and into the new millennium, he has done many leading roles, and luxury supporting roles.

Thanks to the film “Mystic River” directed by Clint Eastwood, he won the Oscar for best supporting actor in 2003.
