Oblivion Gara Jova, better known as Alaska, was born in Mexico City, on June 13, 1963, and is a renowned singer who is part of the so-called Madrid movida, which led several successful musical groups that made her a fundamental piece for Spanish pop.
Daughter of Manuel Gara Y America JovaShe traveled from a very young age with her family to Spain, where she will spend most of her professional life.
It was in that place where she met several musicians who had the idea of forming a band, like her, so the group called “was born.Kaka de Luxe“, formed by the Mexican singer, together with Fernando Márquez “El Zurdo”, Enrique Sierra, Nacho canut, Carlos Garcia Berlanga, Manolo Campoamor Y Pablo Martinez. The group was born in 1977, so its aesthetics and music were strongly rooted in the nascent punk rock.
In November of that same year, they performed at the pub People, where they were very well received by the public. A year later, they released their first and only EP, which featured 4 songs: “rosary beads“,”Play the whistle“,”Electric pen” Y “Long live the Metro“, in order to participate in the contest in the Villa of Madrid, in which seconds remained. Realizing that the band did not have a common ideology, they decided to separate in the same year.
In 1980, Alaska starred in the first movie of Pedro Almodovar, call “Pepi, Luci, Bom and other girls of the lot“, in which she played a sadistic punk singer.
After their separation, the members of the band formed 2 different bands: “Radio Futura” Y “Alaska and the Pegamoids“, which was formed by the Mexican artist together with Carlos Berlanga Y Nacho canut, to which, some time later, they joined Ana Curra Y Eduardo Benavente.
This new project was faced with a base much closer to pop, and its most characteristic themes were: “Horror in the hypermarket“,”I want to be a Columbus boat” Y “Another dimension“, which was considered one of the best Spanish pop songs of all time.
In 1982 they released their first album, entitled “Great Successes“, which managed to sell more than 50,000 copies in Spain. Once this success was achieved, the band decided to disband, so the singer began to face a new project:”Alaska and Dinarama“This new group recorded.”Profane songs“, with which they quickly achieved success because their songs were highly commercial.
In 1984, they released their second album, called “Lust“, which, like the previous one, brought them overwhelming success. Years later, they released”It’s not sin” Y “Fatal Fan“, this last one was the last disc of the band, because Alaska Y Nacho canut they started their own project “Fangoria“.
This new society sought to aim towards a more experimental electronic sound, which led them to record their first album “Mortal jump“, which featured several guest musicians. Although it was an album highly appreciated by the public of Alaska It was, at the same time, a very difficult album for the mass public to assimilate.
Next to Canut, the Latin American singer created her own label, “Metal Sonic Disco“, with their independent recording studio, which they called”Vulcan“, which also had a section for creating video games,”Bleep“, one for video clips,”Inferno Video“, and furthermore, they founded the Fatal Fan Club, in which they proposed to exchange ideas among the group’s followers.

In 1999, they released “A season in hell“, which was recognized as one of the best albums of the year. Two years later, they released”Still life“, which featured more commercial and danceable songs, and achieved great success. In the year 2008, Fangoria recorded a new album, which was called “Absolutely“, recorded in the”Dean studios“from London, in which the midpoint of all his influences is sought, going from Glam to ballad, obviously with his dance roots, and in parts, rockers.
