Carlos Roa – Biography of Carlos Roa

Carlos Angel Roa He was born on August 15, 1969 in Santa Fe, province of Argentina.


Carlos Roa
is an Argentine soccer goalkeeper, known for his participation in the National selection from the country.
He suffered from a terrible cancer that left him off the court for two years in 2001.

Since he was little, all the friends he had sent him to save, since he did not like trying to score goals or run the ball very much.

Little by little, according to his account, he grew fond of the position under the three suits, becoming his great passion for adolescence.

That is how he moved to Buenos Aires to be part of the lower divisions of the Racing Club de Avellaneda, a team in which he made his debut shortly after.

In 1988 he made his debut in the first division in the Racing Club, demonstrating his quality as an archer and his excellent reflexes.

For this campus, Roa he cut short until 1993, during which time he suffered from malaria while the team toured Africa.

In 1994 he was transferred to Lanús, another team from the Argentine First Division Soccer.

Until 1997 he played alongside them, this time leading the fence almost undefeated, to the point of being one of the pillars that he managed to make Lanús conquer the Conmebol Cup in 1996.

After such displays of talent, Roa was called to be part of the Majorca in Spain.

In the season 1997/1998 got the Spain Supercup for this team, being declared one of the best goalkeepers in the competition.

In 1998 Roa was one of the titular archers of the Argentine National Selected who played the Cup World Cup France 1998.

He shared the team with great players like Batistuta, Curly, Ortega, Sorin, Simeone, Round Y Veron among others.

It was during this contest that his colleagues baptized him as he is known today “Lettuce” Roa. This nickname is due to the fact that he lives on a strict vegetarian diet.

At the end of 1998, Roa He withdrew from the soccer fields for a full year, joining the Adventist church, which celebrates the religious Sabbath, where you cannot work.

In 2000 Roa He played again, but a series of events only allowed him to do so for a few games.

Later, in 2002, he was transferred to a team of the Spanish Second Division, the Albacete Balompié.

A terrible misfortune wanted that same year Roa suffered from testicular cancer that prevented him from doing all kinds of physical activity.

After an operation and a full year of chemotherapy, Roa played again in the 2003 but this time in a team of the Spanish Third Division: the Inca constancy.

In 2004 Roa traveled back to Argentina where he currently plays in the Olympus of Bahía Blanca, slowly regaining some of what used to be his great skill as a goalkeeper.
