Celeste Holm – Biography of Celeste Holm

Actress Celeste Holm was born on April 29, 1917 in New York City, in the United States.

Celeste completed her higher education at the University of Chicago, where she also studied acting.

There the actress met Ralph Nelson, whom she married, having a son, and separating in 1939.

It was then that the actress began her performances in the theater, starring in her first role in the play Hamlet.

In 1940, Celeste married Francis Davies, a marriage that lasted until 1945.

During that decade of the 40s, he worked alongside such prestigious actors as Gene Kelly or Eugene O’Neill.

Elia Kazan hired her to intervene in the film The Invisible Barrier, where she would play the role, of Anne Dettrey, along with Gregory Peck and Dorothy McGuire, This role served Celeste to win the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress and also the Globe Gold in the same category.

In 1946 the actress married for the third time, this time with A. Schuyler Dunning, with whom she was united until 1952.

In 1950, Celeste takes part in the film “Eva al Naked”, where she gives life to the character of Karen, along with Bette Davis and Anne Baxter. With this role, the actress is once again nominated for the Oscars.

In 1956, the actress takes part in the musical film “Alta sociedad”.

In 1961 Celeste married Wesley Addy, with whom she was united until Wesley’s death in 1996.

During the 60s, 70s and 80s, his appearances on the big screen were greatly reduced, but he still appears in well-known films such as “Tom Sawyer”, in the year 1973 or in the film of the year 1987, Three men and a Baby, where she plays Mrs. Holden alongside Tom Selleck, Ted Danson, Steve Guttenberg and Nancy Travis.

The actress continues to work in small roles in the 1990s, as in the movie “United by Destiny.”
