He made his official debut in Argentine Soccer First Division on July 13, 1986, playing for the Club Atlético Unión de Santa Fe, and was the top scorer of the Libertadores Cup of 1997 with 11 goals.
It is especially linked to the Athletic Club San Lorenzo de Almagro, club with which he played in 4 periods.
There he came out scorer of the Opening Tournament on 1992, which earned him his incorporation to Boca Juniors the next year.
While the Beto he did not manage to adapt to the xeneize club, he managed to score in three Superclassics, two of them officers and in visitor status.
Later it had two stages with the Catholic University (the first from 1994 to 1995, then came back in 1997).
In his first year his performance was spectacular, in 25 games he scored 33 goals, although that was not enough for his team to reach the title.
After 5 dates in which Acosta was absent (4 for assault on Luis Murri and 1 for accumulation of yellow cards) the Catholic University its performance dropped considerably.
In 1995 history repeated itself, the Catholic University lost the title to the University of Chile, even if Acosta returned to perform in excellent condition.
In the National Tournament scored only 10 goals, but excelled in the Chile Cup with another 10 goals, where the Catholic University champion would be consecrated.
After playing several seasons in the Sporting Clube de Portugal, The Beto Return to San Lorenzo, where he would end up consecrating himself as an idol after scoring more than 100 goals.
The last goal was converted from a penalty, marking the 300th of his career.
