The Most Anticipated Movie Sequels Coming in 2018 Brendan Morrow More Articles April 03 2018 is shaping up to be an absolutely crazy year for films. Although 2017 is filled with even more giant tentpoles reaching theaters at a consistent rate, particularly in the comic book genre 2018 had some major releases. And the vast majority of those are movie adaptations or film universe entries. Many of those are sequels to films that just came out a couple of years ago and have been huge hits. But others are franchise entries that haven’t had a sequel in a long time with one being the long-awaited follow-up to a film released nearly 15 years ago. Here’s a rundown of some of the most awaited film sequels coming up in 2018. 15.15. The Predator September 14
The Predator 20th Century Fox This fourth installment was pitched as a fresh new angle in the Predator series. But it is not a rebuild, and it is built in the new continuity. The Predator takes place between Predator 2 and the latter being the most recent sequel to Predators. In 2010 Predators only performed OK at the box office but now director Shane Black hopes to inject new life into the show. Black is a talented director in charge of films such as Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and The Nice Guys. He also played a small role in the original Predator as Rick Hawkins. The cast includes Boyd Holbrook Olivia Munn Keegan-Michael Key Sterling K. Brown Jacob Tremblay and Alfie Allen in this sequel. It opens a month with few major releases in September so it has the potential to do pretty well and start a new sequels line. 14.
Creed 2 Nov. 21
Michael B. Jordan in Creed The Creed of Warner Bros. 2015 has been an unexpected massive success. The Ryan Coogler movie revitalized the Rocky franchise that had been dormant for nearly 10 years by combining the old and the new. Now a sequel is on the way, with the return of Michael B. Jordan as Adonis Creed and Sylvester Stallone as Rocky Balboa. But Dolph Lundgren appears to be returning as Ivan Drago. Next: This film is based on a popular series of books that many people lovingly grew up with. 13.
Goosebumps: Slappy Halloween-Oct. 12
Goosebumps Columbia Pictures Halloween (2018) has the potential to be Star Wars: Force Awakens of the genre of horror. This most recent franchise entry is part sequel and part reboot. This comes immediately after the iconic events of 1978 claiming that none of the other sequels exist. Perhaps the reason it can’t be overlooked is that it probably sees Jamie Lee Curtis return to her iconic role as Laurie Strode back for one more fight with Michael Myers. Basically, that’s the exact same premise as Halloween H20. But here, director David Gordon Green promises something genuinely original and creative and John Carpenter the original classic’s director is on board with his idea. The film will of course be released in time for Halloween 2018. Next: This is one of three films that Marvel Studios released in 2018. 11.
Ant-Man and the Wasp July 6 Ant-Man and the 2018 version of the Wasp | Marvel Studios Of Marvel launches Ant-Man and the Wasp is definitely the least-hype. But this might end up being among the summer’s funniest movies. The sequel will follow Scott Lang’s ongoing adventures as he returns home after Captain America’s events: Civil War and is put under FBI surveillance. As Hank and Hope Pym go on the run from the FBI Hope Pym becomes the partner in crime for The Wasp Ant-Man. The first Ant-Man eventually became one of Marvel’s second phase’s most surprisingly great films. And this sequel looks like Peyton Reed returning in the director’s chair would be more of the same. Chris McKenna and Paul Rudd come back as co-screenwriters, too. How the character is treated at this time will impact the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s future significantly and decide how it will live on for years to come. Next: The fourth installment in a heist franchise boasts a superb cast.
Eight in the Ocean | Warner Bro. Ocean’s Eight may have the best cast of any movie coming out in 2018. Sandra Bullock Cate Blanchett Helena Bonham Carter Anne Hathaway Rihanna Mindy Kaling Sarah Paulson Damian Lewis Richard Armitage and James Corden featured appearances by Dakota Fanning Matt Damon Carl Reiner Kim Kardashian Zayn Malik Kendall Jenner Katie Holmes Olivia Munn and Serena Williams for this entry in the Ocean’s Eleven series. This is essentially more a spin-off to Ocean’s Eleven than a straight-up sequel. Yet it takes place in the same universe after Sandra Bullock’s sister played by Danny Ocean. The director is Gary Ross but the producers are George Clooney and Steven Soderbergh. Next: This is the latest entry ever in one of the most famous film franchises. 9. Grindelwald Crimes – Nov. 16
Fantastic Beasts: Grindelwald Crimes | Warner Bro. Newt Scamander was the subject of the first Fantastic Beasts film. But it also introduced a powerful wizard Gellert Grindelwald who is caught by the end. Now this sequel will focus more on Grindelwald who is trying to gather followers and execute a sinister plan. While in most of the first movie Johnny Depp plays Grindelwald was played by Colin Farrell as the character this time which has proven to be a highly controversial casting decision. David Yates is returning to the Harry Potter spinoff as producer of this sequel. One last time, J. K. Rowling wrote the screenplay, as well. Next: That’s one of the few sequels Walt Disney Animation Studios has ever made. 8.
Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-it Ralph 2 Nov. 21
Wreck-it Ralph 2 DisneyJess Bolluyt April 18, 2016 HTC’s new flagship the HTC 10 Source: HTC If you’ve been looking forward to the large range of new smartphones expected to arrive in 2016 you might be wondering about the next HTC flagship: the HTC 10. The much-leaked smartphone is an effort by HTC to redeem itself in the aftermath of the much-maligned HTC One M9 from last year (thus the decision to remove the “One” and the “M”). The outcome is a strong smartphone that focuses on getting the fundamentals right even at the cost of an exciting or unexpected launch of flagships.
HTC 10 specifications For Ars Technica, Mark Walton notes that while the HTC 10 is not revolutionary, the phone “might be just what the company needs.” The HTC 10 is powered by a Snapdragon 820 chip with 4 GB of RAM and either 32 GB or 64 GB of storage like just about every other 2016 flagship. An SD card slot supports the storage feature which can be implemented by Android 6.01. A Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 charger will charge the 3000mAh phones battery to 50 percent in less than 30 minutes and the battery life is up to two days thanks to the large battery and a screen that adjusts the refresh rate based on the type of device you are using. On the outside of the handset there are few surprises, either. For The Verge, Dan Seifert notes that the phone combines the style of the M-series phones with the A9 that came in last fall and HTC claims it’s been developing the HTC 10 for 12 months. The computer features a 5.2-inch 1440p display that Walton characterizes as “pleasantly bright” and suitably clean, thanks to a 564PPI glass resolution that curves to match the aluminum body’s chamfered bottom. A fingerprint sensor acts as a home button, and the app is fitted with capacitive back and multitasking buttons at a distance from the on-screen buttons often used by HTC’s recent flagships. A mirrored beveled edge covers the body at the back of the phone and makes the handset look slimmer than it really is at 9 mm thick. Walton notes that build quality is outstanding and the phone feels “could withstand a few hard drops without a problem.” There’s a USB Type-C port at the bottom of the phone volume and power at the right, and a headphone jack at the top.
HTC’s video and audio flagships had issues with poor camera efficiency but this should improve with HTC 10. The phone’s rear-facing camera is equipped with a 12MP Ultrapixel sensor that features large 1.55 µm pixels bigger than those in Huawei’s P9 plus a f/1.8 lens and 26 mm equivalent focal length
optical image stabilization a dual-tone LED flash a laser autofocus system 4 K video recording and a promised 0.6-second launch time for the revamped camera app. The front-facing camera features a 5MP Ultrapixel sensor with 1.34 µm pixels a f/1.8 23 mm lens and optical image stabilization. Walton notes that the simpler camera Interface offers “a marked improvement over previously cluttered attempts by HTC while still offering a full manual mode and a 12-bit RAW shooting option.” A new feature of the HTC 10 is its high-fidelity audio system. The phone has a 1W headphone output plus a 24-bit DSP and DAC that boasts a -104dB THD+N (Total Harmonic Distortion Plus Noise) and a -120 dBV noise level. The phone also has an optional feature which allows you to customize the sound to your ears and headphones by creating a custom EQ curve. Despite the retirement of BoomSound’s dual front-facing speakers, the phone features a separate tweeter and woofer at the top and bottom of the phone that Walton notes helps with audio clarity. In addition, Stefan Etienne notes for TechCrunch that the system can shoot 4 K video with 2x frequency range and stereo recording with a 24-bit 96KHz audio.
