I already have places to go for a drink, but where will I go if my local Starbucks are surrounded by yuppies drinking cabernets or microbrews and talking too loudly about a New Yorker essay? It seems to me that Starbucks is pretty close to perfecting just the way it is (although on their specialty drinks they might stand up to lower prices a little bit) and if it changes it risks alienating the after-2pm market. It already has crowds. Right now there’s nothing cool about Starbucks at night “Most of his customers are there for the long-haul drinking coffee to keep awake hair disheveled from a long day dressed in jeans or sweats or even pyjama pants. And we like that the way we do it. Starbucks so trendy in the morning need those off-hours to cater to those uncool people who really can’t afford the $5 coffee but get it anyway to curl up on an exhausted loveseat and maybe even take a nap to tackle Chaucer. I know some people who would welcome this move “maybe drink a little while they’re studying and add something to that coffee to help them get through a late class sit and drink for a couple of hours while dreaming about platitudes in the New Age. And then there will be people like me who don’t want to change things that want Starbucks to remain a place where people speak in hushed tones where their teeth are painted rather than their lips and where they have to sneak something down the street if they want real food from the Thai place.
