[ Update 9/12/16: Added promo video seen above. ] When we last saw Ghost Rider, Nicolas Cage played him in not one but two crazy-bad Sony movies. The rights to the character then returned to Marvel in 2013, leaving him on a shelf collecting dust while the MCU concentrated on other heroes. SHIELD agents will eventually bring him back to prominence though. Season 4 of the show promises to bring Ghost Rider back into his own arc and there are plenty of explanations why it has franchise-wide consequences for the MCU. Unfortunately what we got instead was a pair of movies with little in the way of redeeming qualities. The first installment netted a mere 26 percent of that critical consensus called “pure garbage” on Rotten Tomatoeseven-worse 17 percent. It’s enough to suggest a refresh has been a must for some time now and where better to do that than on SHIELD agents? 3.
