In the upcoming big screen adaptation of Jeanne Ryan’s young adult suspense novel Nerve, the actress is expected to co-star with Dave Franco. The film follows the story of a senior wallflower from high school Vee, who tries to break out of her shell by playing a global online game of suggestive truth or dare with another enigmatic player Ian (Franco). As she plays and discusses an audience of watchers. But as she progresses to higher and higher levels and becomes an online sensation the game starts taking a dark turn. When the stakes escalate and the game gets more dangerous, she needs to determine how far she is willing to go to win. Signed by The Hollywood Reporter to direct the project. The script was written by Jessica Sharzer while Allison Shearmur and Anthony Katagas are on board to produce. It still sounds like it could make another promising adaptation for the studio, particularly since the novel has praised its fast-paced and sometimes disturbing story that seems to appeal to The Hunger Games fans. Getting Roberts and Franco on board just adds potentiality to the project. Over the past couple of years both young stars have ascended the ranks of Hollywood. Roberts got a lot of attention for her work on FX’s American Horror Story series as well as for her roles in movies like 2013’s We re the Millers and the 2014 indie Palo Alto (the latter of which she co-starred alongside Franco’s older brother James Franco). In the meantime, younger Franco has also recently enjoyed a rise in popularity following scene-stealing appearances in both Jumpstreet films and Neighbors in 2014. If Nerve and Lionsgate’s other YA movies were to succeed, both actors could be set to reach a new level in their careers. While it might now be difficult to think of a time when Jennifer Lawrence wasn’t a mega-film star, after The Hunger Games the actress really became a household name. In YA movies The Spectacular Now The Fault in Our Stars and Divergent, Shailene Woodley has also undergone a rapid rise in star power. The latter two movies have contributed to the image of Woodley’s co-star Ansel Elgort. It remains to be seen whether Nerve will prove a similarly career-boosting tool for Roberts and Franco. Both stars meanwhile have plenty of tasks on their desks. Roberts is currently playing in the Sundance movie I Am Michael and starring later this year in the comedy drama Ashby. The actress is also scheduled to re-team on his new show Scream Queens with American Horror Story producer Ryan Murphy.
