Liu Yifei plays the title character in Disney’s live-action ‘ Mulan ‘
The Mulan actress took a Chinese social media platform to Weibo following the protests in Hong Kong. She posted a message in support of police in Hong Kong. “I support Police in Hong Kong. Now you can attack me everyone. What a shame the actress reposted online for Hong Kong. According to the BBC, “the area has been convulsed over the past ten weeks by sometimes violent pro-democracy demonstrations.” Since fans saw Yifei’s message, some have taken to Twitter and other social media sites calling for a boycott of Mulan’s live action by Disney. Some said the police should not be assisted by Liu Yifei particularly because of the violence used on both sides. Instagram Production has launched this post on Disney’s live-action @Mulan! The film will open on March 27, 2020 in US theaters. Following a year of global casting search Liu Yifei was cast as Hua Mulan. Joining her in the movie is: Donnie Yen Jason Scott Lee Yoson An Utkarsh Ambudkar Ron Yuan Tzi Ma Rosalind Chao Cheng Pei-Pei Nelson Chum Ehelepola with Gong Li and Jet Li. # Mulan Disney fans aren’t happy with the political position of Liu Yifei After the Mulan actress expressed her thoughts online fans launched the hashtag # BoycottMulan. Some in their opposition were vocal saying Liu Yifei shouldn’t side with the police. “It surprises anyone else that one Twitter user is odd. “Those eager to jump on her throat seem to forget that she’s part of a society being bombarded with propaganda portraying the demonstrators as terrorists, and she’s going to lose her freedom to express anything else in public than the party line. Sad times “another Twitter user answered. Some still support the actress and her blunt attitude by telling her character to be real. Others poked fun at the joking situation after Liu Yifei expressed her opinion that Disney is scrambling to find another star. Disney has yet to comment on Hong Kong and Liu Yifei.
