Krack Vulnerability Patches Continue to Trickle OutBySydney Butler-October 21, 2017.132 A few days ago we all heard with surprise that Krack’s vulnerability broke the strong encryption that protects virtually every WiFi system in the world. The good news is that the vulnerability has already been fixed by several big names within the industry. Largely because the team that found it had secretly revealed the hack before going public. Giving valuable time for making repairs. Already updates have started to roll out from many of the major players but it’s been going slowly. The security updates were more of a trickle than a storm.
The Early Birds
Unfortunately you can only get a fix in the case of Apple if you run the latest beta version of iOs. That means regular users are still very vulnerable but the beta will hopefully be accepted soon. Microsoft has gone beyond and beyond updates already issued for Windows 7 and up. If you are running an older Windows version like Xp or Vista well you should have updated now. So this is a good chance to do so.

While Krack is mainly a client-side vulnerability , patching routers is a significant step that needs to be taken early. Sadly most routers aren’t upgrading their firmware automatically. At the end of the tunnel, light is on. The thing is, it’s a long tunnel. We shouldn’t be cynical but we could feel the effects of Krack for many years to come. For example, Wired thinks the problem will take decades to resolve. This is a dark time for network security whether it really takes that long or just a few months. Only time will tell how long we’ll have to hang over our heads with Krack.
