Hulu Partners with Funimation to Provide More Anime ContentHulu is accelerating their development with another main partnership Funimation to become Hulu’s subtitled and dubbed anime provider The deal will carry 600 shows and 10,000 hours of content Hulu’s successful premium content streaming service aims to expand their anime offerings through partnership with Funim The latter is a Sony Pictures Television company specializing in anime and leading the way as a broadcaster and distributor to the producers. This new deal would offer ‘ unprecedented access to internationally popular anime content ‘ to Hulu users, according to the related press release. Over the past year, Hulu has already counted millions of hours of anime viewing by its subscribers, making this agreement significant in an attempt to further expand itself in the U.S. and Japanese markets and continue to grow their subscriber base, which is currently 23 million. The anime library of Funimation comprises more than 600 shows and over 10,000 hours of subtitled and dubbed content. This is another vital part of the deal, since so far Hulu users have been constrained in choosing between dubbing and subtitles. Japanese cartoons feature higher levels of storytelling powered by character and, coupled with their distinctive artistic style, seem to find their way into fans ‘ hearts very quickly. Hulu will improve its status as a modern entertainment service with this agreement and hopes to experience an increase in its subscriptions by 2019 when the deal takes effect.
