And that number will only increase in 2018. Bloomberg Netflix estimates that it plans to spend $8bn on programming in 2018. The money will concentrate on curating several teen dramas and purchasing intellectual properties and merchandise for new original films. A achievement that is not matched by the likes of Disney Warner Bros. and Universal Pictures combined, the company is set to release about 80 original movies this year. Granted most of the originals will be low-budget movies in the mix with the occasional higher-budget film like Bright starring Would Smith. Netflix is also hoping to win the hearts of fans in Europe Africa and Asia for which they will create shows that are tailored to these audiences. The business also works on a variety of anime campaigns, and Scandinavian mystery series. Netflix will also be busy acquiring new publishers and writers to work on their website.
