DISH Sues “Easybox IPTV” And asks for $10 million in DamagesByBill Toulas-August 19, 2019 “2/2.1356.jpg” As their business declines, TV providers are increasingly focusing on legal fights. As the owners of these services remain unknown their lawsuits against IPTV platforms have had limited success so far. DISH Networks filed a lawsuit against “East IPTV” on similar grounds last month. According to their legal complaint details over the past three years, they have sent a total of 116 infringement notices to Easybox, but no response has been given and no corrective action has been taken. Entities like DISH Network are witnessing a sudden and business-damaging trend of cord cutting as masses move towards streaming services including pirating IPTV packages. Since “traditional” television providers have failed to adjust in a timely manner to the changing market, they now see online pirating platforms as a way to make some buck or at least try. After all, what they do is typically legal and just, and pirate services are the only vulnerable entities to be ordered to pay these broadcasters millions in damages. As the name suggests Easybox IPTV is dedicated to the inexperienced users ‘ market segment and those who don’t know how to set up an IPTV service. That’s why Easybox offers pre-configured TV boxes that are ready to deliver many hundreds of channels to their subscribers without setting anything up. The subscription cost varies between $199/year and $369 for 24 months. Obviously the list of the channels offered includes quite a lot that shouldn’t be there since Easybox doesn’t have the license to broadcast them and that’s exactly where DISH finds a lever to pull. However, this will be difficult to do as Easybox IPTV’s owner and operator is an unknown person and the WHOIS information indicates the platform’s basis is in China. This was also the case with East IPTV and having passed more than a month since that lawsuit the website is still up and promoting its services to the North American public.
