The negative reactions to Carl’s death may mean that AMC’s juggernaut ratings have finally hit a snag from which it can t recover. 2/2.768 Carl is still alive in comics as well. Image Comics There’s been a lot of differences in perhaps the biggest change yet. In the show Robert Kirkman Carl is still alive and well. And many of his most fascinating comic plots have yet to be acted out on film. They were able to shift his position to other personages. But Carl’s absence would eventually mean a huge shift in how the story feels to be moving forward. And it leaves viewers feeling even more confused about what’s next to happen which isn’t necessarily good.
2/2.769 2/2.769 The death of Carl may be the last straw for some fans. AMC Carl told Rick in the midseason finale that they had to start thinking more than just killing their enemies. He said he was searching a way forward on that s order. That’s more than that. That’s just how it should be. Perhaps Gimple and the rest of the crew at The Walking Dead should have listened to him. Despite their tragic deaths the show has made a name for itself. But these days they take a huge toll on the audience’s ability to stay invested in the show even when they serve a purpose. By snuffing out Carl, and thus his hope, the series takes a huge risk for the days ahead. Yeah that’s going to drive Rick Michonne Maggie and the rest. But what then? And if they win, without one of the primary people they were fighting for, they look out to a future. The Walking Dead will have trouble removing the nihilistic feeling that comes from Carl’s death.
