You play an imaginative high school girl as Max Caufield who learns she can rewind time. While it sounds like the beginning of a mad sci-fi adventure, most of the time you use your ability to try out different actions and forms of interaction as you go through your normal adolescent life. The characters are intriguing, with signs of an inevitable catastrophe. Your options depend on how it works out. 2. Mountain

It’s less of a game you watch than anything you regularly check in on. Onscreen is a slowly rotating mountain that floats in vacuum. Occasionally text appears reporting on the weather or making vague remarks about this day of days like I ve had dreams. Day changing weather transforms into night and giant commonplace things smash into the side of the mountain. You can zoom in and out and rotate the mountain at will, but that’s about it. It’s a slow meditative experience and worth checking out if you’re loving thoughtful, label-resistant creative experiences. 3. Gone Home

You act as a young woman who has relocated with her family as she traveled across Europe for a year. You arrive at the new house to find no home so you can take a tour of the place for yourself. Through exploring the house room by room, you can find out what your family has been up to since you left, including your aspiring writer father and teenage sister whose submissions to the newspaper are touchingly personal. It’s less of a game than an immersive story but it’s so nice you may not even know. 4. Valiant Hearts: The Great War
Available on PlayStation 4 Xbox One Xbox One Xbox 3 Xbox 360 Windows iOS and Android Hundreds of video games take place during battle but most of them put a gun in your hands and challenge you to destroy as many enemies as you can. That’s not the story that Brave Hearts would like to write. This adventure game slides into the lives of four ordinary people who were deeply affected by the First World War. The challenges that make up the gameplay parts have you do things like performing surgery as a doctor and digging trenches as a soldier. You explore the world in puzzles and end up learning a lot about that part of history “which is a pretty rare thing in video games. 6. 80 Days
Available on iOS Android devices and Amazon Branded as an immersive adventure this steam-punk game has you tried to circumnavigate the globe for 80 days in “you guessed it.” You choose which cities to visit and how to book your trip whether on the horse-back or hydrofoil airship. You meet memorable characters along the way, and make lots of good and bad choices. It’s basically a modern adventure story to choose from. If it sounds pretty fun to read. The developers say this game has a word script of 500,000 which is about 400,000 words more than your typical book. 7. Papers Please
On Iphone iOS and PS Vita On the front of it Papers Please sound as fun as waiting at the DMV. In a futuristic dystopian world you play as a border control officer. Your job is to decide whether country visitors should be allowed in or sent packing. You do this by filtering through documents such as their passports and visas and subjecting them to degrading scans of protection. It sounds like drudgery but it’s actually a lot of fun and it makes you think deeply about real-world issues like immigration policy and who deserves special
treatment and why. Papers Please, that’s a rarity: a game with something to claim. 8. Monument Valley
Available on iOS and Android You’ve ever looked into an M.C’s impossible architecture. Escher drawing and asking what the discovery would be like? That’s Monument Valley’s incredible idea of a jaw-droppingly lovely game full of pastel colors and challenging discovery. But don’t worry it isn’t too hard.
