Nick Cannata-Bowman More Articles September 26, 2015 8/8.912 When the Rotten Tomatoes score a whopping 92 per cent. Since then, there has been nothing like it and two mostly disappointing sequels have done little to maintain the original’s legacy. Even though we may see a rebirth, it takes the sleeping franchise back into the living world. Information are sparse on details however, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, producers Walter Parkes and Laurie McDonald were blunt in confirming their presence. “We are right in the middle of that. It’s very involved, “Parkes said when asked by THR. McDonald went on to say that it “will be reinvented as a trilogy” though without the participation of Will Smith. A franchise reboot without its lead actor would reflect a completely new path for Men in Black further accentuated by reports of a 21 Jump Street crossover that originated during the Sony hack. The stage is set in Black franchise for a whole new kind of Men who will face a whole host of challenges. First and foremost, it will have to do what two MIB sequels couldn’t do: top of the series ‘ original film. The men in Black 2 and 3 were widely considered to be inferior to their parent movie, with the final installment doing badly enough to reinvent the entire original franchise. It is a tall order to say the least and yet not absolutely impossible to achieve. The first thing to consider here is that Men wasn’t made in Black with a view to the future. Sure the final moments of the relationship between Agent J and Linda Fiorentino left a wiggle room for a sequel. But the MIB writers didn’t sit down and write the movie set out with a schedule for two more scripts. Any new trilogy must create each installment with a larger story arc in mind that might in turn give it the continuity that the original sequels lacked. All of this makes the idea for a 21 Jump Street crossover doubtful. Although it’s just a possibility it would make for one of the crazier world-building decisions Sony has ever made and would damage both franchises in a lot of ways in the process. There are few (if any) common elements between the two worlds, and the fusion of them seems more like a way to sell tickets than a natural artistic match. To expand on the original, a new Men in Black series will have to exist as their own universe rather than piggybacking on a dissimilar help franchise. @NickNorthwest
