Lebron James Facebook: Five Humongous Charitable Donations

Nat Berman 3 years ago Lebron James is a NBA player but also a generous philanthropist. In particular, the professional basketball player is giving back to his home town of Akron Ohio. James does a lot of money in basketball but also in deals with endorsement. He never forgets his humble beginnings and is always willing to give to the needy and the causes he believes in. When Lebron was born on 30 December 1984 in Akron Ohio his mother Gloria was only 16 years old. Despite being so young and having to work a lot of jobs she raised him well. When Lebron was 9, Gloria had him move in for stability with Frank Waller and his family. Waller was the local youth basketball coach, and interested Lebron in the sport. In basketball Lebron excelled. At St. Vincent-St he was a star player. Mary High School in Akron where King James was his nickname The NBA noticed and he was promoted as the next NBA superstar by the media. Lebron was instantly snatched to the Cleveland Cavaliers as the first draft pick. In 2004, he won Rookie of the Year and helped lead the team into 2007’s first finals. The big question when Lebron became a free agent was: will he stick with the Cavs? In 2010 ESPN addressed the Lebrons dilemma with a special one hour titled The Decision. Lebron was hesitant to do the special but decided to give charity the profits. Unfortunately, Lebron has opted to play for the Miami Heat for Cleveland fans. Following some backlash about his disloyalty towards his hometown, the money from the special was a big reward because it raised more than $3 million for charity and 10 million people watched the show. Lebron gave most of the money throughout the country to Boys and Girls Clubs, and the rest to other charities with similar interests in helping children. Lebron have had a successful Miami Heat run. In 2012, he helped the Heat win the NBA Championships and in 2009, 2012 and 2013, he was voted NBA MVP. In 2008 and 2012 Lebron also won Olympic gold medals. Happily for Cleveland Lebron has come back to play for the Cleveland Cavaliers and led them to the 2016 season NBA Championship win.

Muhammad Ali: A Force For Change

Most recently, Lebron James donated money to the boxing legend Muhammad Ali at the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. The exhibit entitled Muhammad Ali: A Force For Change covers two sections of the museum honoring Ali one of his stellar boxing career and one of his social activism. Lebron has contributed $2.5 million in donations to the show joining Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson. Lebrom has said Ali as an athlete but also as a champion of justice was an important inspiration to him. Lebron admired the boxing legend who passed away during and after the civil rights movement in June 2016 after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease for Ali’s passion goals and morals.

Lebron James has appointed $2.5 million of the proceeds from ESPN’s special The Decision to Boys and Girls Clubs of America. Lebron was very involved in the Miami club while at Miami. The club helps bring equal opportunities for all children and provides mentoring and activities after school. Through Home Court Furniture Lebron and his wife designed and donated furniture to the Miami club. They replaced the roof and fixed work space for the children. They donated 1000 new computers across the whole of America to 59 Boys and Girls Clubs.

Children’s Defense Fund

ONEXONE

ONEXONE also concentrates on child support. Their mission is to take care of the children by helping them with the 5 pillars: water and play for hunger health education. Like All-Stars After-School, the organization uses donations to help those kids who need it, and encourages them by giving them hope and a sense of pride. The program provides healthy breakfasts for educational assistance and after school activities in schools with water medical help. As with most of the charitable causes Lebron gives back to the children in particular. His Foundation is a significant donor to ONEXONE. Lebron James evidently never forgot his humble beginnings. Without the help and encouragement of mentors such as his mother and the Lebron Waller family may not have had the opportunity to attain the success he has. His basketball talent and his humanitarian spirit inspired Lebron to give back. He never let his ego get in the way of giving back to the ones that inspired him and the kids.

Most recently, James was made headlines because he built his brand new I Promise School in his hometown of Akron Ohio for at-risk young people. The news isn’t shocking because James has shown how much education he needs. This same guy who paid for 1000 children to go to college and started a program called Wheels for Education that provides school supplies for low-income children with access to computers and even bicycles. We want to encourage every kid coming through this school to come away with something they can give back, James said in a CNN interview with Don Lemon. All they want to know about kids in general is that somebody cares. Facebook
